I am editing a documentary together that was shot using the following variety of formats:
Standard Def 24p panasonic (24p mode not 24p advanced)
Standard Def 30i (relatively the same as above)
720p Varicam Shot at 24fps
720p HPX shot at 24fps
720p HVX P2 media 24fps
1080i Z1U
1080i V1U on 24p mode
I am at a loss for how to consolidate all of this into one project. They are going to be finishing at 1080i HDCAM and NTSC Digibeta.
I also am having trouble getting the Panasonic HD1200 deck to work but don't know if it has to do with the deck settings or my project settings.
Any suggestions would be very welcome as the deck needs to be returned to the rental house. Also, I am trying to capture with the deck via firewire to my laptop system 6pin to 4pin. Is this a problem?
What type op project did you start? You can run multiple formats in one projects in Avid just not mulitple framerates... that will be the challenge of the day i guess...

First captured all of the stansard def material and have a 30i project. I am pretty confident about getting the hdv stuff into the project but am at a loss with the 720p materials...all in 24p...any ideas?
Another question...
Before I upgraded to 3.5 I was able to see the import PS media from the file drop down menu. Is there a new process for P2 media in 3.5?
MC3.5 defaults to the new AMA system (ap scans for laoded P2 media on launch and creates a bin with clips) To use the file menu import method go to project settings>AMA and de-select the auto feature.
Good luck with your project
Just to point something out: The Panasonic Varicam shoots always 720p/60! Maybe the link in that other thread will also help you to set up the deck.
Hope that helps, g_f
Thanks for all the help so far. Here is an update. I got the deck to at least capture all of the footage but I had to create a separate project with 720 59.94 settings. Now the trick is to get that footage into my 30i/72029.97/1080i project. Has anyone run into this before and if so what have been your various workflows. I'd hate to waste a day exporting and importing back into the system if I didn't have to.
Thanks in advance...
Save yourself allot of headache and cross-convert all of your footage into 1 common format that you are comfortable to work in (or that makes the most sense to work in). Then edit and be happy.
So my new wife asks me about my "Avid Forever" tattoo... I told her she's an old girlfriend who was always coming up with new things for me to try...
Yes, try to cross-convert all your clips in a common DNxHD format.
