Question: Support for Avid User Groups

Just wondering where AVID currently stands on its support of User Groups.

Now that Brenda Bergin is gone... who is our contact?  Is AVID still interested in the User Group community?  Can AVID financially support the hard work of the User Group volunteers?

    Answer:

We understand that local user groups can provide a valuable resource to the Avid community to help users expand their knowledge of both the technology and the art of creating stories.  We do offer some support for these user groups, and are presently looking at our long-term user group strategy to determine our ability to offer financial support as well as to determine how to best leverage our newly unified businesses to provide the right level of support.  As soon as we have something to share, we will let you know.

    Kirk Arnold:
Avid has tried to maintain all of the flexible features in the new software licensing system that were previously available with the dongle.
Thanks for the response but I am afraid as many of the Dongle posts show you have failed pretty miserably at it.

Maybe a better question would be why not run both dongle and software activation as removing one or other will severely antagonise a reasonable proportion of your market

Thanks for the continued dongle support

Question: Mojo DX & Pro Tools|HD

    Hello,

When will Mojo DX be usable in the same CPU as a Pro Tools|HD system?

    Thanks for reading!

    Answer:

We are happy to report that with Media Composer 3.5 you can have Pro Tools and Media Composer installed on the same system!  This co-install feature is part of our initiative to ensure that we allow Avid products to work together as seamlessly as possible!

    Question: JVC GY-HD100/200 and 720/30

Any chance of getting the JVC-GY-HD100/200 cameras format of 720/30 working with Avid Media Composer software any time soon? I have been dealing with severe out of sync audio since May 2006 - with something that was listed as working since 2006.

I understand this is questions regarding the future which - after the Oscars - looks like it can be continued success... but how about working in formats that Avid claim work (although this is a known bug since reporting it in 2006), and making them actually work?

    Answer:

Unfortunately, this issue is a limitation with the JVC camera and Avid Software.  We are working to try to find a resolution as soon as possible.

Question: HDV and capturing under Vista64

Please give us a new Firewire driver to support HDV capturing under Vista64. All other software (Premiere Pro, After FX) runs well. Only Avid doesn't see the HDV camera (in my case a Sony HC1). If I switch the camera to dv output everything runs well again.

Please urgently update your software that it supports HDV again.

    Answer:

Our product management team is actively researching your request and we will provide a response on the forum shortly.
