I realise that Avid is only supporting the top two new 'Nehalem' MacPros but is there anyone on here who is successfully using v3.x MC with DX hardware running on the cheaper Nehalem single quad or the cheapest (2.26Ghz) dual quad?

Those top two MacPros are just crazy expensive!

Any help appreciated!

It is absolutely worth every penny to get the top of the line Mac Pro.  I just bit the bullet last week and my productivity has quadrupled.  It is worth absolutely every penny, and you might as well upgrade to the 2.93 because that's the only one that has hyper-threading—super super useful when you've got a lot of encoding that needs to be done.  I can export an entire ProRes QT of a 1:40min feature film in an hour and it takes 21mins to encode that QT into an MPEG2 using Compressor.  Seriously substantial difference between the others.

Thanks.  Good to know. My profile specs aren't up-to-date.  At the moment we have two Harpertown 3.0Ghz dual quads, which are supported just fine on the DX hardware.  We need to add a third suite here in the next few days, so it'll have to be a second-hand Harpertown or one of the new models.  The price difference is absolutely huge, so I think we'll just run the DX on one of our existing systems and go second-hand.  Shame.  £2.5k for the previous Avid-supported Macs just turned into £4k.  Oh dear.

Post, Marianna was telling me that there is definitely a problem running the software on the Single Nahelems. So, I'd definitely stay away from those.

I'm about to get a new machine, and this is exactly the question I have: does anyone work with a 2xQuad 2.26 Nehalem here? Is that fine? Or should we get the next one up in the Mac Pro lineup?

The machine will be used mainly for offline of feature film, cut in DNxHD36 or SD DVCAM. No fx, nothing really processor intensive.

Dual 2,26 Nehalem, 12GB (6x2GB!!!) 2x 500GB Raid0 as System + external 1TB WD as TimeMachine

2x1TB Raid0 with external WD 2TB Backup

Slot 1 G120 GeForce

Slot 2 Decklink HD Extreme Blackmagic

Slot 3 Highpoint SATA Raid Card with 4x 750 SATA HDDs in RAID 5

Slot 4 Avid Xpress MOJODX Card

OSX 10.5.7, MC 3.5.4 and works Rock Solid with MojoDX (Still from time to time Busthread Errors (2x/Week)

But I can Use the Decklink SDI to Analogue throughoutput to get an extra Analogue output from MojoDX !!!

We are using Mojo DX with MacPro 2 x 2.26 Quad core, not able to detect the Mojo DX, request you to help us to configure the same.

Can you tell us, does your Mac System Profiler report seeing the HIB card? If so, does it show the Mojo as an Attached device?

We are using Mojo DX with MacPro 2 x 2.26 Quad core and have had no problems what so ever.  Works beautifully for us.
