Two issues in a suite running MC ver 3.5 on an HP xw8400 workstation, 4GB Ram, Win XP SP2: (1) When the editor puts a marker on a clip, it will not play in the source monitor (remains frozen). Remove the marker, the clip plays. (2) At random (is there such a thing?) when switching between source/record monitors, the selected monitor just displays a solid colour (ranges from pink to green) in the entire frame. The only way out is to quit Avid and then re-load the app. Any ideas? Cheers, Stu.
Qualified graphic card? NVIDIA driver version? Quicktime version? Media Composer Version Matrix

Hey, Larry.. Many thanks. I updated the driver and the QT version and the source monitor fault has gone, hopefully so has the random record monitor fault. It sure pays to keep up with upgrading the drivers! Cheers, Stu.
You're quite welcome, Stu. Keep in mind that the "latest" drivers and QT versions are not necessarily the right ones to install. Always defer to the ones associated with your specific Media Composer version in the version matrix, even if they are not the latest ones.
Hi Larry.. Fault is back! The source monitor again freezes when a locator is put on the track ( I could not make it fail just after the driver install, but now the editor has succeeded!). So far the rec monitor has behaved itself. The editor is using a Wacom tablet, which I remember from days past, was a right royal pain with Avid. He has installed what he feels is an appropriate driver (not the latest) for the tablet. I am wondering if there is a bug with ver 3.5, so am going to back-grade to 3.1.3 next week so see if that helps. Could it be the tablet, by any chance? BTW, the display driver and QT version I installed are the recommended ones from Avid. The XW 8200 has an FX1400 card installed. Could this perhaps not be up to the play for ver 3.5? Chers, Stu.
Yes indeed, there have been many users reporting playback problems of different types with Waacom tablets in the system. Webcams, too. I refer you to this thread.
Thanks for the comment and the link. The editor back-installed the wacom driver to ver 4.93-3 and this seems to be OK. I note that the version recommended in various forum discussions is 6.08-4, but will keep the current ver. as it is working (at the moment!). Have also back-graded Avid to 3.1.3 and so far the editor is very happy with the result. I am wondering if the video card (FX1400) is perhaps just not up to running ver 3.5. Anyone got any comments? If this is so, then the facility will need to upgrade the hardware before considering any further software upgrades. Cheers, Stu.
According to the system requirements, NVIDIA cards FX 560 and higher are qualified for MC 3.5, so I don't think your card should be an issue. Have you tried removing the Waacom tablet to see if that alone eliminates the playback problems you've described previously?
