I'll second that motion. Far too may times I've hit cntrl-Q when I meant to hit ctrl-A or cntr-W. THe speed at which Avid exits is amazing - boom there's your desktop. At the very least a warning box would be helpful.
me too, most of the times when I try to hit CTRL+S or CTRL+A and I 'm in a hurry... and it's embarrasing if that happens whith a producer next to you and you are both in a hurry (making everything ready for a satelite feed, for example).

Anyone?
That's standard Windows (and Mac via CMD) behavior. Much like how CTRL+S = Save. I doubt you will find an option to disable it. But IIRC, you should get the "OK to Quit Application" dialogue box with OK and Cancel options. Just hit Cancel and it won't quit out on you.

I have to agree.
Director: 'Oh has the avid just crashed?'
Me: 'Errrrrrrrr yeah.....'
no dialog box, just saves and closes. If their was a dialog box, I wouldn't need to disable the function.

What version are you on? I'm on 3.0.5 at home and I've been at a client site running 3.0 for the past 6 weeks and each time you hit CMD+Q (these systems are Mac) the dialogue pops up. No harm, no foul.
Seems to me that if the box is not coming up in 3.5 or newer releases, then this is a regression and needs to be addressed as a bug.

Yes, that might be the case, I am seeing it on two systems with 3,51, both XP and Vista

give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
One thing I can suggest, which I use for other good things as well, is an inexpensive macros application that runs in the background. The one I've always used is called Macro Express. It doesn't interfere with other running software in any way. I use it to reassign the Save command to Alt-S and the Undo command to Alt-Z, both because they're more finger-friendly for me than the default Ctrl keystrokes, and because they emulate the keystroke finger positions that one uses for those commands on a Mac keyboard, so I don't have to re-train my fingers if I end up on a Mac-based system.
So with Macro Express or something similar, you could disable Ctrl-Q by programming it to something that takes no significant action (such as "press Shift key" or "press Space Bar" or "Macro Stop."
The little app is set to load when the computer is turned on, so it's literally a no-brainer.

guess it's a PC thing, Right now I'm on Symphony Nitris 3.1.3.
Happens to me occasionally as well. On any flavour of v3, but it also happend on Symphony Nitris 1.8. I have no clue whether or not I hit enter as well, but sometimes Select-All or Deselect-All unintentionally becomes: quit right away.
Yep I'd have to vote for this one... at least it *saves* then quits (thanks).
Avid, FCP, EVS, Tape, whatever.

Why don't you all just "vote" to have the bug that is preventing the safety dialogue from appearing when CTRL+Q is hit fixed?
It would be easier for them to fix that bug rather than to go away from native OS behavior.

The tread wasn't started to moan to Avid about a silly(but sometimes annoying) bug.
It was to try and find a work around, which dosen't seem to exsist.
In the end it's our own fault for miss-hitting the keyboard, such is life.
If they fix it one day, great. If not, oh-well at least it saves before quiting. Without the save,
Than it would be somethng to moan about.
