sasha1:has anyone tried this using Squeeze?
FWIW the new update for Squeeze seems to do a vastly improved job of deinterlacing.
Douglas your ProCoder settings I believe should have PAL interlacing as upper field first
Thanks for the continued dongle support

Andrew, you have much more PAL experience than I, so I suggest anyone looking at my screen shots make that adjustment.
I was doing it as a one off just to see if Procoder could do the job.I didn't change any of the default settings.I did see the wavy edge that worng field settings can give. But only on the preview in Procoder. Everything seemed to be fine in the final transcode..... However if I had some pans in my sequance maybe they would have been jerky.
Thanks for pointing that out, Andrew.

If I understand yout thoughts correct, Douglas, you are having an opinion about an app that you aren´t using, is that correct ?
in that case, rather strange ( also my personal thoughts )
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me

Keeping this on a friendly relaxed plane, Tomas
There is a difference between "an app that I am not using" and "an app that I have never used".You are doing very well with your English, but it is not always easy to understand small subtleties.Just to make sure here it is in a longer Swedish version.

Of course, but did you do these conversions when you was using the app, as said, we do them very often with good results.
When users comes to this forum asking for help, we are giving them tips of how to do it and often, well mostly, users are grateful to those tips and we others are also testing and discussing this workflow.
I had a good feeling this time to be able to keep the helping app within the Avid family but at the same time it feels very strange to have this very good workflow told not to work because the app also can do other things, this without trying the workflow.
Douglas, you are doing a great job with your tutorials but you sometimes have to admit that other users at this forum also, sometimes, might have useful tips.
Im having a problem when i try to transcode form HDV ntsc to DNxHD:
It begins to transcode, and after a few minutes the error appears. The files im transcoding are big (about 15 minutes); could it be aproblem? (it worked well with a 1 minute file)
thanks again for your help
Maybe we should try once again with another workflow for you, unless there has gotten some politics into this thread you created to get your probs fixed
i did the conversion to HD Mpeg Pal with procoder, and now i get the problem that i cant import that in Avid....(i believe mpeg is not a supported fortat for impoert....)
Linchi:i believe mpeg is not a supported fortat for impoert...
Yes, you are right. You should have exported a Quicktime* or AVI* from Procoder.
Regards, g_f
*use a QT or AVI codec that Avid understands! All of Avids own codecs are supported, of course, but also Animation, MotionJPEG or uncomressed files will work.
sorry - didn't read page two of this post.
i believe there is not avi or qt format in procoder HD, jus SD.....that's why i chose HD PAL, cos id like to keep the HD to edit....
right now im converting to avi Pal in procoder 16x9 at least to hace something...
i need new ideas
In Canopus in the "Target" section click on "Add" -> "System" -> "Quicktime File".
Then you will have to make a few adjustments. Look at the screenshots Douglas has posted earlier in this thread, as "Encoder" choose an Avid DNxHD codec. Regarding field order: Avid says HD always has an even field order (lower field first). Maybe you should do a test with a rather short clip.
Hope that helps, g_f
Linchi, I would like to apologise for having given you incomplete instructions on the Procoder transcoding.I was fixed with the idea that you wanted an HD conversion, and I did not take into consideration the MPEG import step you would have to do at the end.I see that others have jumped in with good advice about the QT codec and field order.I hope that you will get this to work soon.Once again, sorry for the incomplete answer from me.
Linchi,If I get some freetime today, I will take a deeper look at your question.I wonder if you could give me the following information?
1. What version of Procoder are you using?
2. Is Procoder on the same system as MC?
3. If it is not on the same system - Do you have the Avid Codec pack installed on the Procoder computer?
Hallo Douglas, i have to admit that i lost tons of hours compresing, exporting, trancoding, etc, etc, but everything was because i didnt look carefully to the camera settings the day i was shotting, and also maybe i didnt explain myself well enought in my first post. maybe also you didnt read it well enought. anyway, ive always known avid does not import mpg, so its really my fault not to think properly (i got very drunk friday night:D)
next time i have to convert something from hdv ntsc to pal ill do it right away.
now i set up procoder as told and hopefully it will be solved for good.
thanks
