has a thread with a tip that's preventive care so that MDV is not AS necessary - e.g. to use subst command to create virtual drives. i've done this for the last 2 years exclusively - figured it out before i saw the russians doing it.

and now if you create all avid projects as "external" into the same directory (now a virtual drive with its own drive letter) this enables you to keep your entire project under one subdirectory. it's quite sweet when juggling multiple projects and needing to free up space on media drives as new projects come along - something that we all deal with.

but of course MDV is still sweet in finding unreferenced media that for whatever reason has gotten buried somewhere deep inside your system. besides with the MXF\1...2...etc directory structure you can first move things to a purgatory down the numeric food chain - and then kill it only when you're absolutely sure it's of no use.

The method you describe has been discussed several times here as well as on other forums. Yes it's a good workaround for people who wanna manage the media files in this way. I do NOT, and use MDV.

Many functions are not implemented at this moment, but basic file management functions

(copy, move,delete) are on their places
