I'm doing some organization and I want to have a custom heading in our sequence bin that keeps track of the number/name of these sequences when they're made to be encoded files...
I have a lot of re-naming to do, so I'd like to just copy/paste the text each file to the appropriate sequence in this newly created custom heading column.
However, Avid doesn't allow me to paste text into that column. (or any other text column, it seems)
Why?
Thanks.
Just type it once and then it becomes a pulldown in the column. You may have to hold down the option key when clicking (I don't remember).

BlKDOG... That's how you rename columns, but that's not what I am having an issue with.
I'm talking about filling in all the fields. Each sequence has a specific encoded file name now. Going forward, we want to keep that file name associated with that sequence (even as we update it). So we will be adding the file name into the custom column on EACH sequence.
There are hundreds of these, and right now we have to type in each one. Unfortunately the Avid won't paste what is on the finder clipboard into the content box in the custom column we created.
... lol
...but now it suddenly works for pasting from the finder. I have NO IDEA why, but suddenly the paste function is working. The only thing I've done is rename the custom column heading a few times.
No, once you type something in a column's field, you can use it as a pulldown in that same field. So, you can type the info once, then go to each row in the field, pull down the info and select it. Beats Cut and paste everytime.
Right... I'm seeing that.
But my problem was that the information I was copying would not paste into the fields. The dropdowns don't help me in this situation because each column's field is going to require a unique name. So I'm just copy/pasting the text from the files in the finder (w/o extenstion) into each field.
That is working now, but prior to this, they simply would not accept ANYTHING being pasted (whether I copied it from the finder or within the Avid app. I'm not sure if changing the column heading name or entering in "adfadsfadf" in one of the columns kick started the Avid or what... but suddently it is accepting the pasting... So I'm not complaining now. :) I'm going to get these all in before it decides it doesn't want to let me paste anymore.
It may sound bizzare, but the only way I've been able to get copy/paste to work is to set and in/out on one frame of black in a sequence and hit option+c to copy it to the source monitor. This essentially "clears" the clipboard and you can go on copying and pasting after. It seems to work for me (symphony 3.1.3 OSX 10.5.3) but I guess YMMV. I'm curious to see if that works for you too.
