Hello,
I am working with my first HDV project. I have finished editing, but do not know how I am going to get this out to DVD. I read I need to mixdown to SD, but when I go to the mixdown settings, there is no option with SD settings. This was filmed as 24f with canon xh-a1 I need to get this on DVD immediately. Anyone who has done this process and is willing to tell me exactly what workflow please tell me. I do have Sorenson Squeeze for encoding. Thanks in advance!

do you need to mix it down to an SD timeline? In that "other" program, I export basically "Same As Source" from an HDV timeline and then drop it into iDVD to create a DVD from an HDV project. I imagine you could do the same on the Avid.

If you have Avid DVD, I would keep it HiDef and do a mixdown in DNxHD 145. Export the Qucktime Reference.
Open up Avid DVD and make sure you are creating an SD 4.5GB DVD. Bring in the HD QtRef file, and let Avid DVD do the encoding for you. Be sure to check out Douglas' tutorial on this to make sure you have the right settings based on how long your video is.

First, thanks to everyone for chiming in here. I have done quite a bit of reading from links and through searching, but I have not found the answer to my particular problem. Many mention mixdown to DNxHD 145. When I go to do so I do not get that option. I have several XDCAM options and one HDVp option when I use these and then attempt to export I get long GOP cant be same as source errors and to mixdown taking me in a vicious circle. Is it a 24f problem? has anyone taken 24f all the way to DVD?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! I am under some major time constraints and I am getting absolutely nowhere!
In your project window, under the "Format" tab, what are your settings?
This is a project that was shot on the Canon XHa1 24f
My project settings are 1080p 23.976 1440x1080
I can't even recreate that. I tried creating a new project with those settings...
lorenasa: This is a project that was shot on the Canon XHa1 24f My project settings are 1080p 23.976 1440x1080
And when I create a 1080p 23.976 Project it is full 1920 x 1080. There is no way to make it 1440.
When I try a mixdown "Special > Video Mixdown..." My options for mixdown are DNxHD 36, 115, 175, 175X, VC1-APL3, 1:1, and 1:1p 10b.
I am running MC 3.0.5.
What format is under the "Video" heading in your bin? I have DNxHD 115.
Just noticed you are running a newer version of QuickTime. I don't think that is qualified to run with MC 3.0.
Hoh,
You gave me a good reminder that I had not changed my profile to reflect my recent upgrade to MC3.5 That was really bad of me not to have changed that in my profile earlier I do apologise. I made this upgrade specifically to be able to handle this footage at this resolution. The problem now is that I am unable to get the finished projedt out to DVD.
Well, you've moved beyond me... I'm still working here on 3.0.5.
I would suggest that you check the current codec of your clips.
Also, try changing the raster size of your project to 1920x1080 and see if you get more mixdown options.
Good luck,
Darin
Thanks for trying...I will keep battling this issue hoping to find someone who has successfully accomplished this.
