Idea [I] Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

    Avid has released Avid Media Composer® v3.1.3, Avid NewsCutter® v7.1.3 and Avid Symphony™ v3.1.3

    Who is this upgrade for?
This version is for customers already using Avid Media Composer v3.0.x, v3.1.x, Avid NewsCutter v7.0.x, v7.1.x and Avid Symphony v3.0.x and v3.1.x. A dongle update is NOT required. Customers who have upgraded to Avid Media Composer v3.5.x, Avid NewsCutter v7.5.x and Avid Symphony v3.5.x should NOT download this update.

Why is Avid releasing this product version after releasing the Media Composer 3.5, NewsCutter 7.5 and Symphony 3.5?
Avid feels strongly about continuing to improve the quality of all of our products.  While we do not anticipate another release for the Media Composer v3.0, NewsCutter v7.0, Symphony 3.0 product family, we will deliver fixes to our customers if there is a need.

How to obtain the new editors
The v3.13/v7.1.3 editors are now available for download from either the avid.com Download Center or the Support Download Center (login and password required).

    What is in this release?
Avid Media Composer® v3.1.3, Avid NewsCutter® v7.1.3 and Avid Symphony™ v3.1.3 contain various performance and usability improvements. Customers are encouraged to download and understand the ReadMe content before installing this update.

Go to the avid.com Knowledge Base and the current ReadMe list is located on the right side of the KB home page.  From there you can pick the product and get to the latest ReadMe documents.

If you discover any issues with the new software, please start a new thread.

There was no mention in the ReadMe as to whether this version is compatible with 10.5.6. Should I assume that 10.5.5 is the highest this version will ever go?

I would.  A shame since Apple just released 10.5.7, which presents some of us with a dilemma.

I know I just saw that. I am trying to avoid doing the 2 partition thing (2nd partition for FCP with an up to date OS). Things run fine for both right now so maybe I can hold off for awhile longer.

Re: Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

So if I'm running 10.5.6 I should just stick with version 3.0.5? Or does it not really matter? Not sure what 3.0.5 is meant to support up to ---- didn't realize it was a big issue. Thanks.

Re: Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

If you are referring to MC 3.5 then yes that supports 10.5.6 otherwise any flavor of version 3 before 3.5 requires 10.5.5. Make sense? In short versions: 3.0.5-3.1.3 are only supported on OS 10.5.5 and below.

Re: Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

A couple new bugs introduced with this release:

When I open an old title, the background is black.  I have to toggle the V button to see the underlying image.  Then, when I save the title, the text is shifted up by one "tic."  If I forget to reposition it, I have to open the title again, nudge it down, and re-save.

Also, something new... often after I work in the Timeline, I get the shutter style (Maltese Cross) spinning icon for about a quarter second before it plays.  That's not terrible, but I've just not seen it before.

It's being investigated by Avid.  Stay tuned.

Re: Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

Another potential bug with this version:

After installing it as an upgrade to 3.0.5, I now get an error when trying to launch the Audiosuite window that says, "

    DAE interface NOT available (stubbed)"

I had to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall the software to make the Audiosuite plugins work again.

Re: Media Composer 3.1.3 Now Available!

    well... 2 observations

1- one system auto updated to 10.5.7 before i could stop it. that system is sunning MC soft 3.1.2 and seems to be fine.

2- i have another machine running MCsoft 3.5.1 on 10.5.6. a birdie told me that 10.5.7 is qualified for MC 3.5.2,

but 3.5.2 isn't on avid's d/l center... wassup wit dat???

Have you run into any other issues using QT 7.6 and Leopard 10.5.6?

I would really love to see Avid qualify these.
