    Embedded audio Question...

Does anyone know if the Nitris supports embedded SD and/or HD audio (via SDI)... also, how many channels through each if supported?

    Thanks,

Yes it does, and it works. You can do up to 8 channels. You need to enable it in the audio project settings under output. The default is disabled.

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

Yes, but you have to turn the embedded outputs ON in the output pane of the Audio Project Settings. They are off by default.

Input is up to eight channels in both SD and HD.

Output can be selected to be 4 or 8 in SD, or 4, 8, 12, or 16 in HD, also set in Audio Project settings. To get 16 you have to be in direct out and turn on 16 channel output. I don't know if any decks exist that can support 12 or 16 channels.

Does avid have a machine template for the 5500 that supports 12 channel out.  When I select the Sony SRW 5500 60 I only get 8 audio channels.

Like Jal says you can I'm not in front of a system now but we do 12 track stuff all the time. I'd go in and see but there is a conform going on in there.

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

I've got the Avid playing out 12 channels, no problem.  I have to manually arm my SRW during a long preroll because the Avid machine template i'm using from Symphony 1.5 only supports 8 channels.  Has anyone written a machine template for 12 channel out to an SRW?  Does one of the newer releases have an updated template?

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

No. The basic Avid interface still only allows 8 channels. The deck template ISN'T the issue.

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

LexTrex - can you explain a bit more clearly how you output 12 chs at once? I didn't think this was possible.

And Terrence what is the issue with playing out 12 chs? Is it a Nitris hardware limitation?

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

You can output 16 channels with Nitris over HD-SDI. If you enable the 16 channel output, and assemble edit, you will get the 16 channels on your deck.

Avid can only arm 8 channels in the digital cut tool. If you want to insert edit any channels above 8, you need to manually arm them on the deck during preroll. Obviously this is far from optimum.

    Re: Embedded audio Question...

    Hi Neil,

Under the output tab of your audio project settings you will find a button that says "Allow 16 channel output."  Now under the HD-SDI tab you will see 12 channel 24 bit and 16 channel 24 bit as output choices.  They work great.  The problem is arming your VTR.  I thought the problem was the machine template.  Evidently not.  TCurren says the limitation is actually in the software for the output tool.  Mike at tech support in Tewkesbury confirms that a fix will be in an upcoming software release.
