Hi
just got a brandnew Dell M6400 with a certified Quadro FX 3700m. The Notebook comes with the new driver version 176.53, that prevents MCA 3.5.1 from booting.
The Avid-supported driver 169.47 from the utilities folder does not work as this is a mobile version of the FX3700
Could somebody give me a hint where I could find a driver that works?
thx

after reading the whole Avid readme over again and the system specs on avids website, I wonder how they tested and certified my notebook. what driver did they use???
avid? anybody?
There is only a newer version for Vista 32 in nvidia's site.
Maybe you should send an email to Dell and ask for an older driver.

Hi magus,
as I told you in the e-Mail: I am running the Dell driver A03, which contains nVidia driver v176.53 without any problems. I get a message at MC startup "driver mismatch..." but I click OK and everything is fine! Your MC doesn't start at all? I could have a "A02" somewhere, if you want to test it I could send it to you if Dell is not offering it anymore.

hi, and thx for ur reply sverkalo
I searched Dells Website: they come up with two drivers for mobile cards that don't work.
I tried a search on Nvidias page and found "Avid certfied drivers" but not for mobile cards.(and appearently these suggestions are outdated)
I would really appreciate if some avid folks tune in here and enlighten me on which driver they used when they tested and certified the dell M6400.
cheers
Hi Magus,
This is a repost from another thread that dealt with the same problem with the M6400.
AKA Dave: OK. For those of us that have this system, I consider this a bad thing. So in the interest of public information here you go. I upgraded my browser to Internet Explorer 8 yesterday. Today, when I launched AVID, it hung at the same place it used to before I upgraded my driver. After a bit of troubleshooting I realized that it was due to the IE8. I scrubbed it from my system, reinstalled IE7 and things are good again. Just an FYI for all the M6400 users out there. Also, I dug up the link where I found the driver version I used. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=J64CY3J&SystemID=lat_e5400&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex= I figure someone might need it down the road. Don't let the fact that the page is for a Dell Latitued E5400 throw you. Scroll down a bit and you will find the audio driver you need. Dave

It was my solution at the time and it still works just fine. Hope that helps.
Dave, can you post a link to the original thread here or send it to me?
Thanks in advance, g_f
thx for the input mr general failiure
currently running 179.50
smart as I am I already tried to just hit "continue" when that "GPU display driver mismatch" alert pops up during prgramm start, but then MC always crashes during "Autoconfiguring transport machines"
so the wrong display driver is not preventing MC to boot properly on ur sys?
hmmm. then what is that crash?
its a fresh install on a fresh system....
There are a lot of hits in the search engine of the forums...! That one blames wireless connections, this one has another possible solution for you.
P.S.: Yet I see we (M6400 users) are qualified by Avid! YUHU! But I did never run the AME registry file and have no issues with audio thru' my MBOX2. I always say: never touch a running system, but can anyone explain what this AME file actually does?
they explain the AME tweak like this:
"Per the Qualified Workstation List, you must run a registry update before using any Avid applications with the Dell M6400.
This instructs the application to use the Windows Media Mixer as a sound card. Without it, you will not be able to input or output audio from the M6400.
Download the registry update "AME.zip" from the "File Attachments" Section at the bottom of this page"
and I found the C+M trick in ur link that appearently forces the site settings to be recreated. now my MC starts, only odd thing is that "GPU Display driver mismatch". ok I can live with it. would be nice though to get the right driver.
thx again for ur input
sweat dreams

Glad it works for you.

I fear you will have to, I haven't found a way to disable the message, yet. Let me know if you do!
Good night, g_f

Strange about the windows media mixer as a sound card. I have not used it. I am still on the onboard IDT only, so far as I know anyway. I have used my M6400 on firewire with a couple of decks, SD and HDV, a few cameras, and on a BETA SP via Mojo SDI with no audio issues after I installed the driver I found. I have also not used the AME.zip to update the registry in any way. Still no issues, no driver mismatch messages, nothing.. Perhaps I am just lucky.
AKA Dave:no driver mismatch messages
Which nVidia driver have you got installed? I have no problems so far, but it's always good to know "working" configurations.
Thanks for the link, Dave. Regards, g_f
I am using driver version 6.14.11.7626 with a date of 8/01/2008.
hey lucky dave

managed to solve that video driver issue with ur infos, thx a lot for that!
but that wasn' it! -now I have audio stuttering on my machine as described in another thread I opened
wonder if that AME tweak is the reason, question is how do I get rid of it?
silly enough- I didn't make a backup of the original registry key before I ran the AME thing.
would you be so kind to export and send me your untweaked registry string?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avid Technology\DirectSound]
Edit: thanx to lucky dave I managed to get my Dell 6400 running and as promised- like a charm.
will describe the solution to my audio stuttering probs in the other thread i opened.
perhaps somebody might find that useful
