Frustrated. Sorenson Squeeze to Avid DVD problems....

Ok.  So this is the issue.  I am transocding in Sorenson Squeeze.  I am using DVD NTSC 16X9_LG.  So then when I try to add it to Avid DVD by Sonic.  THis window pops up.  Now if I add it, it makes me transcode it again.  Now, if I use Adobe's Encore, it works like a charm.  But, I like Sonic more.  Anyone help....

    Hi,

What kind of file are you using in Avid DVD?

    Generally, the workflow is:

    1. Export a Quicktime Reference Movie from Media Composer.
    2. Use the Quicktime Reference Movie you exported in step 1 in Avid DVD.

    good luck,
    Carl

What are you throwing into AvidDVD/DVDit? Only the video-mpg or the audio-mpg as well? If you want to go thru' Squeeze you might want to read this thread, that's how it works for me.

    Hello Camoscato,

No, I can do that.  But, I'd rather transcode in Sorenson as it is better quality than avid dvd.  Also, I noticed that avid dvd chews up more space on the disk when transcoding.

As you have the " always ask me this " box checked, you will always get this warning, even when the files are fully compliant.

    Just uncheck the box.

If the files are compliant or not will be shown during the encoding process, do soem tests with differnt settings to see what works for you.

I did uncheck it, but now it wont import it.  And if it does it is garbled.  Why if I transcode it as an mpeg 2, does it not work?

Nevermind on this.  it adds the media with no error, but when you make the dvd, it still transcodes the video.  Whats the point of having sorenson squeeze, if this is what happens?

Does anyone know, if you transcode it in sorenson.  Then it transcodes in avid dvd.  Does that mean it is transcoding the SAME video twice?

Yes, that is what happens if you don´t find the correct settings, might be a little tricky to find them, and , in that case, as in Douglas tuts, it is better to let Avid dvd take care of the encoding process.

Thank you all.  I think you're right Douglas.  i will just let Avid transcode it in it's DVD application.  I am through trying to figure it out.

Sincerely, you guys are all a huge help.

    Good point, Tomas.
And, "Why", I hear you all ask,"would Squeeze not have the correct settings?"

There are a number of possible Blu-Ray/DVD pre-sets to choose from in Squeeze.
There are NO presets that specifically say "for DVDitProHD or AvidDVD".
I am only guessing here, but I have a feeling that as DVDitProHD was out before the pack(as far as Blu-Ray goes)... it may have some small idiosyncrasies in what it wants for "compliant" parameters.
Adobe Encore and some other Blu-Ray Authoring programmes may be more in line with what Squeeze is producing.
I am mentioning Blu-Ray..... but the same may well hold for the DVD part.

Unless it is absolutely vital for your source material I still suggest missing out the middle man. Go from MC straight to AvidDVD!

    Good luck,

    Douglas

Re: Frustrated. Sorenson Squeeze to Avid DVD problems....

Yes, Douglas, as with most ( = all ) editing , there are very few automated workflows and a llearning curve for everything that you want to do, in this case maybe the op could start with creating maybe 10 or 20 dvd discs using the standard workflow to learn the basics and, after that, maybe, do some smalll tests with preencóding files to see if they might work without the need of beeing reencoded if the Op still feel that there is a need of using preeencoded files.

It's definitely some setting somewhere mate.  Were you doing audio too in Sorenson?

My workflow (until recent frustrating issues) was always to use Sorenson to make the video file m2v and import this to DVDit and link the WAV audio.   Just check out your whole export settings from Avid to Sorenson to your authoring settings.  Post 'em here if you want a second opinion, but it seems like one mismatch somewhere...  There's a lot of room for error after all!
