I'm at KXTV Sacramento, an AVID client station.
We're struggling with file transfers from the field from Media Composer laptops-- trying to find the "sweet spot" balancing video quality with file size. We're using Verizon Rev-A wireless cards that can upload a 50 meg file in about 10 minutes.
We've experimented with Sorenson Squeeze v5 (bundled with Media Composer) and other third party solutions, all so far with not completely satisfactory results.
Does anyone have experience to share?
Thanks,

OK, after a week of fiddling around I think we've found a solution.
We're using Sorenson Squeeze v5 (bundled with Media Composer) and a high-quality WMV download profile. We've taken the default settings and changed the audio sample rate to 48K and pushed the video data rate to 4K.
The embedded FTP client in Sorenson is very nice, further streamlining the process.
The workflow is as follows: Send Avid timeline to Sorenson, which makes QT reference file. Sorenson then compresses to WMV and uploads the file to a corporate file server. With a solid wireless signal and a Verizon Rev-A broadband card, the entire process takes about 10 minutes for a 90-second video sequence. We've experimented with a Sprint broadband card with similar results.
Back at the station, anyone in the building can drag the file into Avid media manager, which converts the file for air.
The difference between the compressed and uncompressed files is virtually indistinguishable to the naked eye.
Cool. Thanks for the detailed workflow.
