Sorry, don't get my opinion bad, but I'm very disappointed with the new logo. It's very ugly, and it seems to be brought from a low budget 80's movie... it reminds me to Galactica or V TV series.
Wy have you modified a 20 years company's logos? I think that if there is a strategy of integration of 5 companies, I wouldn't change the logo of the owner of the other 4 first? and why does it have to change, and not the others' logos? Please, old Avid's logo!!! please, come back!!! forgive us!!!! Bye people!.Thank you.
You want the old Avid Logo back? (Picture below)
With the new logo I was also thinking old sci-fi interior wall relief pattern, but I couldn't really place from where I have seen it.
Heywood Floyd: What? What's going to happen? Dave Bowman: Something wonderful. Heywood Floyd: What? Dave Bowman: I understand how you feel. You see, it's all very clear to me now. The whole thing. It's wonderful.
Fwiw... I rather like it. It looks great on the NAB booth.
My regret is that Softimage isn't part of the "new brand."

Didn't Avid sell Softimage to AutodesK?
Yes, to Autodesk...
I have written down some thoughts on the whole integration process here

even though it reminds me of...:

the german equivalent to MTV
Yes... sold to Autodesk, therefore no longer part of the Avid brand as I noted.

This is a website of a company that does video production in Croatia. Athough, it's strange that someone would name a video company the same as the most popular video editing software in the world, I couldn't help but notice that their logo looks strikingly similar to the new Avid logo. BTW. the company exists for over a year now with that logo as part of their identity.

*puts fingers in ears and sings* "La la la la la la, I hear nothing... ahhh" More money that could be spent on development spent on logos, new logos and lawyers.
Still like the new logo. However...
Love Avid. Love (almost) everything they do. Know a bunch of folks there... and no longer there. I can imagine that the business card printing, new signage, new swag, and all the budget-trackable work hours dedicated to implementing this (unnecessary) brand change in a multi-platforming world... could have saved a number of their jobs, no?

A nice thought but it doesn't work that way. This new branding is a direct result of the reorg. Not the cause of it. When you combine five really strong brands into one, everybody needs a cohesive marketing image and this is what we are seeing now (one shiny new logo for everybody). It's really a good thing. Lots of opportunites presenting themselves as a result of this. I'm excited for the future.

Proper re-branding via a cohesive marketing program will translate into increased revenues...or at least hedge against lost revenues. Investing in this branding is investing in the future of the company. If successful, it will generate additional economies of scale and improve Avid's competitive strengths and increase its customer base. Avid is addressing a changing market in a competitive arena. Ignoring this fact would jeapordize far more jobs.
