MC v3.1 w/ Mojo Irritating Capture problem

I had been using Xpress & Xpress HD for quite some time with no real issues.  Last fall I finally upgraded to MC and in general I am mostly happy with the added capability.  However I have been tolerating issues with capture via my Mojo and would really like to sole that now.  I rarely work with sound so up to now I have tolerated the system.

My problem is when I capture, it shows the sound beign recognized by teh system (green sound tack bars are in action during the record) but when I go to work with the captured segment, there is no sound int he captured segment.  My work around is to hook up the video camera to the mojo via both the firewire cord and the composite video/audo cables.  Then when I capture I used the firewire cord to control the camera durign the capture but selct the compiste video & RCA cables to capture the video and audio.  Would much rather go back to capturing via just the firewire.

Another irritating problem is having to get out of MC and reboot the Mojo inbetween captures because it seems to regularly lose the signal.

    Any ideas?

This might seem a stupid question, but are you monitoring the audio via mojo and not your sound card output?

Unfortunately monitoring is not the issue.  You cannot even see the soundwaves in teh captured audio.  There is a file saved for each track but nothing recorded in it.

You mentioned you see audio bars when capturing, but can you see them at all if you play the clip in the timeline? Or do you still see the bars, but without any sound?

You also did not mention what kind of format you are capturing, but I suspect it could be something related to audio sample settings.

Go to the settings tab / Audio Project and check the parameters. If your default project rate is, for example, 48khz, and your footage, 44khz, you might not hear sound, unless you have the "Always Convert Sample Rate When Playing" set to "Always". Or you can manually convert any captured clip sample rate, by right clicking it in the bin and select "Change Sample Rate". You can also look in the bin headings for which sample rate the clip is set to.

Hope this helps. If not, please post back.

    Thanks for the reply.

There are no bars when I do the play back.

I do have sampling set to Always.

I think it may be that I have an older Mojo.  I suspected the fire wire cable between the camera and the Mojo went bad (they do that) however I do hear the sound on the computer during capture so the sound is indeed getting through.

For now my work around is doign fine for my needs.  Inerstingly enough, going the composite route I am doing any repeated captures without having to get out of MC and rebootign the Mojo.

    Thanks again.

Re: MC v3.1 w/ Mojo Irritating Capture problem

Just solved the problem.  Found out it was the video camera I was tryign to capture from (Canon ELURA 100).  I've captured from it many times in the past with DV Express Pro but it isn't working correctly with Media composer.  However, capture via my Sony is workign just fine.  Go figure.
