This may sound stupid, but did you actually record in HDV?
Many cameras can be set to record in SD or HDV.

Hi,
Yes, I made sure that the material was shot on HDV.
Any other points I may have missed?
Thank you,
Nefin.
Not sure what happened, but my reply to Nefin has been posted at the very beginning of this thread.......?
Also check if there is a camera setting for ILINK. ILINK must be set to OFF.

There is no way to know for sure, but it could be the IEEE controller on your motherboard. Avid recommends Texas Instrument (TI) controllers and your motherboard has a Agere LFW3227 controller chip. Maybe you can pick up an IEEE card with a TI controller chip on it and try that.

iLink is OFF too.
Trying to find a TI controller chip will be such a pain in the city where I am right now.
But if you do not have any other suggestions I will try to do that.
In the meantime if you come up with other solutions please let me now.
Hello,
I have tried to find the solution to the problem in the forum. There are some clues but not a real answer.
Here is the problem:
We have shot on HDV with Sony HVR-HD 1000E (PAL). Now I am trying to capture it into MC 3.5. When the material is downconverted in the camera Avid and the computer sees it and captures it with no problem. But when I try to capture it as HDV neither the computer nor Avid sees the camera even though I open the new project as 1080i. (This is the format we shot.)
I have tried to see if Windows Movie Maker sees the HDV material. Same problem. It immediately sees the downconverted material but not the original HDV.
On the computer there are two firewire ports. They are: AGERE and VIA. I have tried them both, neither of them worked. Some offered using Texas Instruments brand. I hope it is not the problem since it would be very hard for me to find one in the city I am working right now.
In the forum some suggested to download Quicktime. It is already downloaded.
Some suggested running Dvbuffers.ax. I found it but it did not run on my computer.
I do not have a Mojo. The camera is attached to the computer directly through a firewire.
Any help is much appreciated. We have 6 of those systems in 6 different cities and I am hoping that the solution is not too complicated.
Specifications of the computer:
Operating System: XP Pro 32

Intel Core2 Quad-Q8200
4GB PC-2-6400/DDR2
640 GB SATA-3G
NVIDIA@GeForce 9600 GS 768 MB
AGERE works great here. Both TI and this one.
Go to device manager and having the camera connected just uninstall the firewire.
Then scan fro hardware changes.

Hello Nefin,
I don't have the HVR-HD 1000 but maybe this will work.
You must set the camera to HDV.... not AUTO or DOWNCONVERT.There should be a setup menu on your camera to setup the Firewire port. For Sony cameras you usually need to set it to HDV!
Good luck,Douglas
Disconnect the camera from the computer and go into the camera menu and where you set it for downconverted output, set it to 1080i. Make sure it is NOT on auto. Then reconnect it to your computer and see if MC can recognize it. It might also help to have an HDV signal playing out of the camera when you open the MC capture tool. I use an FX1 with MC and it works perfectly.
Thank you for the advises.
The camera is setup for HDV 1080i output. It is not on auto.
Before launching Avid I make sure that the camera is running the HDV material.
Avid still does not see it.
Any other suggestions?
In the meantime I have tried to connect the camera into another computer which is a Vaio laptop with XP on with the same version of Avid.
Exactly the same situation occured. The computer sees the camera when it is DV but does not work when it is HDV output.
I have checked the controller chip but it does not say whether it is TI or not.
I could not use the same firewire cable to check if it was the cable since the port is different on the laptop.
I will try to uninstall the firewire in the meantime.
I'm about ready to throw up my arms in defeat ... I've got an HVR-Z1U and I'm having the same problems.
I can capture fine in a 1080i 50i project (with a 50i tape), but no dice with a 1080i 59.94 HDV project (with a 60i tape).
I've tried all of the following:
Downcovert set to OFF
Camera set to HDV
Plug in the camera via Firewire, turn on MC 3.5, open Capture tool, Adjust Deck and tell it that I'm using an HVR-Z1. Press play - I see the video and hear the audio. Everything seems fine. As soon as I hit Capture I lose video and audio and get 1 of 2 errors: Audio/Video unexpectedly dropped, or Drop Frame tape expected.
I changed the deck settings to default to non-drop.
I tried uninstalling the IEEE controller and re-installing it. No dice.
I have literally gone through every single 'fix' I've found on all the message boards re: this error and NOTHING is working. But I KNOW it's possible because I can capture from this camera in a PAL setting - just not NTSC. So what gives?
I've even tried rubbing my stomach while tapping my head and crossing my fingers ... nothing's working.
The only thing I can see that seems wrong is that in the camera's menu where I turn off i.Link, etc, it says "Changes Not Allowed". It's only supposed to say that if the camera is plugged into the computer, but it says it regardless. It still lets me change the menus, but why is it saying "Changes not allowed"?
I'm completely out of ideas and could really use some help. I dont' want to have to rent a deck.
Did you try renaming the tape?
