Re: Show off the Suite Baby!!!

Here's my current suite as of July 2007. The desk and side car were designed and built by myself and a set builder friend of mine. White oak trim, formica and melamine surfaces. There is a machine room behind the camera position. The room was originally designed as a Mix-To-Picture suite for ProTools. That's a 100" projection screen behind the curtain. This room is completely custom with programmable lighting and convection air handling, and there's a vocal booth to the right side. The acoustics are phenomenal. The ceiling height is approx. 16ft. and lends a lot of volume to the space.

Hey Post Digital, Very nice suite! I like the clean, uncluttered work space. I bet you just love the 16' ceiling and the 100" screen.

The center speaker is part of a surround monitoring system used by both the Avid and the Sonic DVD Creator systems. I use a StudioComm surround controller to accommodate both systems. It has two surround and two stereo inputs with solo and muting for all channels.

So how do you use it with your Avid? Does it have a matrix decoder?
I've got a similar setup, and I use a Violet Audio pre-amplifier that does DPL2-decoding.

Re: Show off the Suite Baby!!!

The Adrenaline outputs 8 channels of audio via optical which feeds a Alesis optical to analog converter which feeds the StudioComm controller which controls the speakers. Using Discrete Output in the Avid Audio Tool, you can patch the output channels in any configuration.
When cutting multicam concert videos, I monitor the 5.1 surround and/or 2.0 stereo mixes provided by the audio house.

OK, thanks, so you use it for discrete monitoring. I use my pre-amp to have DPL playback of stereo mixes that will end up being screened in DPL mode (like temp mixes on cutting copies).

Symphony suite I designed around 2000. Note the reverse radius of console. Plenty of client space and it reduces the urge of clients to crowd the editor. Also dual screens are duplicated on the client desk.

Re: Show off the Suite Baby!!!

This is my hardware set-up, let me know what you think of the working area. I work out of my apartment and space is very tight. I have been scrimping to get the right equipment, next well be bigger digs! I find the lower monitor much easier on my eyes, especially when looking through bins. Because the monitor is 22" I can leave the audio meter, clipboard monitor bins and effects windows open. I arrange the windows just as I would paper on a desk surface.

This is how I keep my workspace & source/record monitors. I really have noticed less eye strain.
