Changing Source alters offline clip's timecode

    Media Composer Adrenaline version 3.0.5

I'm working in an XDCAM workflow where we (editors) usually receive rough cut timelines using proxy clips. I constantly have trouble with the batch import function (to up-res) especially if the rough cut editor has changed something in the (horrible) PDZ program disc viewer program.

So, the fine cut editors have been instead treating the clips as clips, and batching them via their timecode, using the XDCAM as a deck rather than a drive.

But, recently I've been running into problems. I currently have a timeline in a HD project that is roughed out with the proxies. I duplicated the timeline, unlinked it and decomposed all the clips with 1 second handles.

Everything looks great. Timecodes match, etc. The only problem is that these offline clips have no tapes associated with them. So, I select the clips from one tape, right click and change source to a tape in my list. I click through the warning message, as always. This is where the problem occurs. The clip lengths remain the same, but the timecodes shift completely. Sometimes by as little as a couple minutes, and other have shifted by hours... I cannot find a pattern to this problem.

    Here's an example: Clip 1 - 5:00
    Original IN: 03;16;06;08
    Original OUT: 03;16;11;08

    Tape Changed IN: 03;18;27;12
    Tape Changed OUT: 03;18;32;12

If I don't assign a tape to the clips, the the batch digitize ends without capturing anything. What can I do??

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    DS

Re: Changing Source alters offline clip's timecode

well, I still don't know why it does this, but I did find a solution that makes sense.

I figured out that I had to go to the original proxy clips and change their sources/tapes. Then the decomposed clips needed for up-resing will have the corresponding tape numbers.
