I color all my source logs, it makes the timeline all pretty!!
However in the clip color menu when I have both the source and media offline ticked then the colors in the timeline become all funny- so that clips have different colours for video and audio- strange.
Anyone else seen this? I've only noticed it on 3.1.2.
Thanks
St.John
When you activate "offline" in clip color, the system will display offline clips in a bright red that is reserved only for offline condition. Perhaps this is what is causing the color distortion you refer to.

Actually, I think there may be some bugginess here, although our experience is a bit different than what St.John reports. Here's what we see- color a bunch of clips, select source and offline in the clip color menu. Drop a mask on a new empty video layer. As you put add edits in this track, the new clips created by the add edit will take on the clip color of the clips on the tracks beneath. You get a sort of checkerboard coloring in the top layer. I've recreated this on multiple systems, so I don't think it's any sort of corruption.
double-g:
What version or versions are you seeing this on?
St. John:
Please post a screen shot of what you're seeing in the timeline.
Sorry bout that, I should've mentioned that! We're still on v3.0.5. I've looked through the release notes of subsequent releases and see no mention of it...
I need at least 3 other users with the same version to successfully replicate the same problem before I can escalate the issue.
I think what double-g is seeing not a problem. It is the way it works.
If your putting an effect on Filler, then the Filler will take on the color of the Clip below it where the Filler starts. I believe if you were to do an Add Edit on that Filler that was directly above the cut between Color Bars and BWRamp, you would see the portion of Filler above BWRamp change to Yellow. (I don't have MC running at the moment so I can't test it, but I'm pretty sure that's they way it works)
I'd like to see a screenshot of what St. John is seeing though.
Also, FYI - If you're using Local Clip Colors, then it trumps Offline and Source coloring.

I disagree. Clearly that is the way it works now- I'm suggesting that it's not a feature, but a bug. If I color my clips a certain way, so that I can quickly find them visually in my timeline, why would I want the filler to work like this? It's just distracting. I will gladly admit I'm wrong, if you can point me to somewhere in the manual that says it is supposed to work this way...

That's not fair because many features or featurettes or "behaviors" are not documented at all. So, you will never have to admit you are wrong.
I finally had an opportunity to test this out as I had forgotten about it the last few weeks. Turns out it is enabling the Offline coloring that causes it to show Filler as the same color as the Clip directly under it. Having just Source coloring enabled doesn't do it.
I'm not really going to try and understand the coding behind why Filler would adopt the Clip Color of the clip below it, other than to speculate that the reason is related to how Filler affects the clip and it's relative media. There may be some kind of link between the two so that if a clip that is Blue goes offline, the Filler above that section will show as Offline coloring as well.
I'm on 3.0.5 as well, so someone who has moved up beyond that will have to test this to see if perhaps the behavior is the same. I'm not going to call it a "bug", but rather a "behavior". If it doesn't function that way in a later version, then I will admit that they changed the behavior.

Sorry, slow to respond:
Usual timeline looks like this:(Normal)
With offline color clips checked I get this:
Sorry
No pics attached, here they are, normal and with offline color clips checked
Help, I'm hopeless,
I cant even manage to upload 2 pics !!- so here is the normal timeline
I'm working with 3.1.2.
If I have Offline and Source Color the same time, some source clips disappear.
but as i can remember the bug was obvious in older versions, too
without offline
Bloersch:In addition to source clips disappearing (which has not been reported by others in this thread), do you (in 3.1.2) also see the filler coloring and clip coloring issues when both source and offline clip colors are chosen that the other users are seeing? Can anyone running 3.5 confirm any of these issues?
