Getting from the MC timeline onto the Web causes lots of confusion.Mainly because of the many variations in video formats and codecs. There is no way that a set of 3 tutorials could cover all possibilities.
Taking the simple approach I will show you my workflow and then leave it up to you to discover if and how you can use any of my ideas in developing your own workflow.
The final of the three tutorials describes one way of uploading your final movie to the web, using Dreamweaver.
Good luck!
Douglas

Hi Douglas
Here's the real issue that I am having; I create the player as directed - there's no skin file (I'm guessing this has been incorporated into the player.swf file?) so I have the flv, an htm and the player swf.
Here's the rub - on the machine I produced the encode on, the htm file plays the move just fine, in the skin. If I move it to my web computer, it won't play. The htm opens with the skin showing, but no movie.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
John

John,
What application are you using to upload your files?
Regards,Douglas
I use the coffeecup ftp uploader, but I'm not getting that far. Before i upload new files I test them in a folder on the computer I run my websites on.

Sorry John, my mistake.I did not mean "upload", I guess I should have said what application do you create your web pages with.... before uploading.
I have used Dreamweaver since the beginning of time...... well actually there was some Adobe application I used over 10years ago... can't remember the name though.
As I only have experience with Dreamweaver, that is the only area I could help you more with.Dreamweaver is doing a lot of the donkey work with its "Behaviours" etc.
But, yes you will need the "skin" swf file in the same folder as the other files, as described in my Tutorial above.
Did you succeed in getting Flix to ceate and then playback the flv file?
I may not be able to help much more on this until Sunday, at the earliest.
Good luck.
I author my web site using coffeecup html editor, or for quick changes I just use notepad. Maybe I'll invest in Dreamweaver one day....
I seem to have worked out what is happening, or a workaround at least, but can't see that I am doing anything incorrectly;
a) the latest version of FlixPro isn't creating a distinct skin file
b) I have converted my flv file to swf and created a player - now when I move the movie.swf, the player.swf and the htm file to another machine, it plays (before I just got a web page with a skin)
c) there are 3 skins included with Flix Pro that are acceptable, i.e. subtle. These don't retain their player control buttons once the player is created. All of the other horrible skins do however. Hmmm :)
As I say, maybe I'm getting something wrong, but I think I followed the instructions correctly. I shall upload the files to my website host and see what happens.
Guess I'll have to pay for the extra skins, although that does seem to make the Pro version of Flix semi-pro and £50 more expensive.
Which 3 skins are you trying that are not retaining their control buttons?
Have you checked that they don't appear when you "mouse-over" the playing area?
The three from Flix Pro are Toronto, Trans Fine w/alpha and Trans/GS
Mouseover has no effect. I have bought the skins pack and the same is true of all of the Fine A to F
I'll use my next prefered (the Elegant series) and will ask Wildform.
About to embed the code and upload - I shall report back.
Thank you Douglas

John,I tested all 3 of the above, and I got the control strips showing on all of them. This is on an older XP machine.
When I get to my office later this morning I will try on 2 other systems with different OSs.

Surprise!I don't have it installed on Windows 7 yet.I tested them on the machine. here. that also has XP and they all worked with the control strips. The only wild guess I can make is that the window that your final FLV/SWF player is opening on is not high enough!
If you have a video e.g. 640x480, you need to have it show in a window of 640 x 500, in order to see the extras like "control panels" etc.
The cause of the problem turns out to be the OS. I installed FlixPro on WinXP3 and the player controls are there.
Strange that all of the other skins work on Win7 64 bit, just not the 'finer' ones.
Many thanks for you support.

. . . . . and the bad news is . . . . . .
I have just finished installing FlixPro on one of my Windows 7 64 bit machines...... and the 3 skins we are talking about worked correctly!
Out of curiosity - what is the version number of Flix Pro.
I updated mine from the original that I bought many years ago and now have Version 8.546 Codecs Version 6.2.9.22
I am wondering if new customers of Wildform get an even newer version, and that has some bugs?
Mine's 8.5; oh well, I'll have to use it in Xp :)
