here's my current problem/puzzle:-the show we are working on was shot on a Panasonic Panasonic HDX 900in the 1080i 24P format (24P with 3:2 pulldown on a 59.94 tape with 30fps timecode)-Digitized into a 23.976 NTSC project on our Adrenaline, removing thepulldown on ingest (I know starting a 23.976 project was a big mistake, but hours of footage have been digitized and a few shows already cut)-when we go to uprez in HD on our Symphony Nitris, we can't digitize theinterlaced signal into a progressive project since the 3:2 pulldown is onthe tape and the timecode is 30fpsnote: tape is DVCPro HD and we're using the Panasonic AJ HD-1400 VTRPossible Solutions:- worst case solution, transfer via edl to a 1080i project and have torebuild all titles/effects. Lots of video slippage anticipated. Hugeamount of prep before online.- try to conform in a Final Cut 23.98 project and then play textless intoAvid. This way I could manually copy my effects and titles from theoffline. So far no luck with this, Final Cut doesn't like the edls. (understatement)We originally intended to online in 23.976 HD since we have a 1080i and24P delivery, but I'm willing to settle for a 1080i if that's the only wayto do it. I'm just wondering if there is any way to keep the effects andtitles created by the offline editors.any other possible solutions? Is there a DCVPro HD deck that does a cross-convert from 1080i to 1080p?thanks for any tips / workflow solutions you guys might be able to find.
but will it convert from 1080i to 1080p?
YES!! I found a solution
In 23.976 SD mode, I took a copy of the sequence and then did a Modify to 23.976 HD. Then I flipped to HD mode, and did a decompose of the clips. Now for the tricky part: I set the deck (AJ HD-1400) to 23/59 mode, then went into the deck configuration and told the system that the deck was actually a AJ-HDxxxx 24p. That lets the Avid recognize the deck as one it can use.
ahhhh.... got it working. hours saved! Thanks guys!
