I'm running MC 3.1.2 on a Mac OS 10.5.5 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 4Gb 667 Mhz DDR Sdram. Quick time version 7.5.5
While trying to capture through firewire to an external NTFS drive, everytime I select a video track or run just about any command on the capture tool, I get the spinning beach ball of death.
Any ideas? Are there better applications for reading PC drives? I need to be able to bounce my drives from one computer to another without problems.

Paragon works great for me. And MacDrive on the PC side.
Cool. Before I spend the forty bucks each, let me ask - have you ever had any problems capturing HD or any other high volume fast transfer of information? I've made the mistake fo spending money on things that claimed to fix other problems before only to find out that they didn't quite meet the sales claims.
MacFuse is freeware, but it appeared to have no issues until I tried capturing.
I just read a review online that says that Paragon has problems reading files larger than 2-3Gigs. This wouldn't be an issue for OMFI but would be a problem for MXF. Has anyone run into this issue?
I would recommend not trying to capture or playback directly from any non-native platform drives.
So, if you have Macs, get Paragon and capture your stuff to an HFS+ drives. Then copy the media files over to the NTFS drive.
If you have a PC, get MacDrive and capture your stuff to an NTFS drive. Then copy the media files over to the HFS+ drive.

I formatted my drives on my mac, installed macdrive 7 on my dell. Works great!! I have captrued hdcam 145hddnx on an Avid Symphony Nitris - 1.8.2, transferred mxf folder onto 7200rpm Firewire drives. Opened the project on both Dell and Mac, edited fine.Kent

I've never used HFS+ drives on PC's for critical work, nor did I use NTFS drives on Macs for critical work. I've done some DV25 or 3:1 or lighter SD capturing occasionally, but I would not recommend using drives under MacDrive or Paragon for critical stuff, and never as a main drive.
That said, I never had any issues when capturing those lower resolutions to such drives. Don't think I've ever tried capturing files larger than 3GB MXF, so can't comment on that. I recall doing some 5GB QT exports to a Mac formatted drive using MacDrive without any issues.
Both MacDrive and Paragon have been among the best purchases I've ever done. Every now and then, I encounter a situation where I need to acces drives from one platform on the other. Never have to give much thought to it, since it won't matter.
With the speed and volume that I need to work, bouncing terabites from one drive to another would be... limiting. And while I realize that the concept of going through any third party software to access drives is a little scary, if it works, then i seems like a better solution.
So, above we have one guy who had a 5 gig file on MacDrive. Anyone have large files going the other way with Paragon?
