Howdy forum...I think Avid has an uprez affect, but don't know anything about it.
Basically, we have a few shorts all shot on HD in a 29.97 1080p project. I have one 29.97 project shot on the DVX-100. I'd like to uprez to 1080p size just so they are all happy together on the DVD.
Is this possible? Any help so appreciated!

BCC that comes with MC 3 has an uprez effect that some say does a great job. Not had much luck with it here. (Takes too much experimenting with the settings to get a good result for my liking)
Thanks for the continued dongle support
Yes the uprez filter works great, you cannot capture the Sd media to be able to use it, you have to import it as a file using import settings to keep the origin size.
After that, you just apply the filter, lots of nice settings and well described in the help file once opened it up.

give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Thanks...so it is an effect I have to install separately for MC 3.x?
When you say you cannot use the captured media, does that mean I have to export same as source from the SD project and then reimport the file into an HD project and uprez?

awesome - thanks for the comments! I do have the boxed version of MC 3.0 and found the Boris CD. Installing now...
BTW - anyone on Windows that uses MacDrive has to disable MacDrive or the Boris installer will not launch. I couldn't figure it out at first, but since the CD is for Mac or Windows, MacDrive was grabbing it first but then not launching the Mac installer obviously.

I had the same problem, then I found you can just right-click on the "Mac" CD in Explorer and one of the options is "show Windows CD" (or something like that).

Magic Sharp is the preset that gives you the best results, unfortunately, it is also most render intensive, take a loong coffee break ...
As your aim is to produce a DVD would your time not be spent better trying to get the best downconversion of the HD stuff, rather than upconverting SD to HD to downconvert back to SD? I suspect it will suffer in the process.

Brian

Correct Brian, my head is so filled up with bluray right now that I didn´t notice that he should "only" export to dvd, of course, if that is the fact, there is no need at all for upscaling the Sd clips to Hd with some filter, this procedure is only for outputting Sd as Hd.
This new Boris effect worked really well - thanks for the input! It took letterboxed DV footage and uprezzed to 1080p anamorphic. Pretty amazing. The render took like 4-5 hours on a Symphony Nitris system, but it was worth the wait.
I need this HD even though the result was a DVD as everything else in this documentary style project was HD. So burning the DVD with one project standard def was just going to cause headaches.
Yes i think that it is a very good filter, nice that it worked well for you.
Actually so good that I created a little tutorial, I am not at all going to compete with my swedish talking japanese friend Douglas and as I wanted both hands free, I used a headset that I might have got for free together with a dial up modem many years ago, I use it for Skype.
I might put it on its on page for downloading if any user finds it informative, I really like this filter.
and, for those knowing me, it is a Silverlight clip of course, I made it big to be able to see all the details, I might create a smaller one also, for those with better eyes and slower connections

Useful tutorial, thanks.

Thanks Sylvain, I used a little higher speed and resolution for the file than in my standard web profiles, thought it needed to be sharp, did it play and download in a reasonable way.
Thanks interesting tutorial. Really blurry here on a 24 inch LCD running native at 1920:1200
