Try Frames->Absolute in the timecode plugin.

Hey, thanks for getting back so fast.

move the x,y locators in the record monitor, but im not sure what you mean by putting the values there.

and in regards to the ABSOLUTE setting in the FRAMES version of the effect, there is no drop down for choosing ABSOLUTE, I/O, MARK IN MARK OUT or anything like the TIMECODE version has. the drop down menu for that simply dissapears when choosing FRAMES as a modifier.

    any ideas?

    cheers

Re: MC 3.05, How to? Absolute Source Timecode

I may not have been super clear in my first post, so let me describe the results i am looking for.

basically i am looking for each shot to display what frame is being used from the source shot.  so if i cut into the shot at 19 frames, it would start there in the TC display of that shot.

right now, all i can find is something similar, with SOURCE > CURRENT TRACK > ABSOLUTE, but that gives me a HH:MM:SS:FF  timecode, which is not so clear for animators which frames are being used. have to use a calculator for each shot.

doing animation its a valuable commodity to display what frames of the original shot is being used, so i was hoping this version of MC would have this component to its TC Gen. I'm probably missing something, I find it hard to believe that Avid would overlook this.

    cheers

On V2.8.3 we are setting each clips DPX field to -00000 which gives a pretty good frame counter in the timecode window and in our cutlist.

If DPX or another feet& frames counter was available in the display plugin you could use that.

    Hi,

    mhrziwnatzki:
i am looking for each shot to display what frame is being used from the source shot.  so if i cut into the shot at 19 frames, it would start there in the TC display of that shot. right now, all i can find is something similar, with SOURCE > CURRENT TRACK > ABSOLUTE, but that gives me a HH:MM:SS:FF  timecode

Above the soure and record monitors there are drop-down menus for changing the display from timecode to frames.  I'd try changing those two displays to frames, then to absolute, and see if that allows you to set the timecode generator to absolute frames.

If you've already done that and it's not working, then I have no other ideas.

    good luck,
    Carl

I don't seem to be able to pull such a thing off here either. Think it would make a good feature request on the feature request forum. Actually, it would be nice to be able to display anything in the Burnin that can be displayed in the Timecode Window.

I'm using 3.1.2, and unless I'm doing something wrong:I can get a burn-in of frames: using the generator effect and the display set to frames, I think I get what is asked for, see attached photo

But that's not the frame count for the source shot, only for the timeline.

According to that picture that's the V1 TC track readout as frames isn't it?

Re: MC 3.05, How to? Absolute Source Timecode

weird hey? I'm suprised this hasn't come up before from animation houses. it would be very valuable to post a quicktime of the show with all each shot's source details.

and you're right, you should be able to title effect display any info that would be in the timecode display options. interesting. i wonder how hard it would be to toss that in there.

Re: MC 3.05, How to? Absolute Source Timecode

ah yes, that does give me the details for the source's frame count for me in my avid.

but what would I do for making a TC burn in that details each shot's frame count,  so I can export it into a quicktime?

    thanks for your help btw.

I don't have an answer to this, but I've also been wondering the same thing. I also wish it were possible for the Timecode Burn-in effect to let you use any of the fields in the Timecode display. I deal with dual-system synced sound a lot and I wish there were an easy way to get a Soundroll and Sound TC burn-in, since our telecined tapes are always clean. Also, a way to turn off the "N.A." that appears when it can't find the information - perhaps an option to hide display when no information is detected.
