Hello,
we have a 3 user Unity v4.1.6 on a sr2200 3gb ram, vixel 2gb/s 16p switch, and old avid 2TB JBOD. We need to add 3 more clients. Regarding disks we have approached both firenetix and xyratex for quotes on their 2gb/s jbods. They are both quoting 750GB seagate/hitachi drives. They are also both asking the same question:- what cache do we want on these drives 16MB or 32MB of cache ? These drives are obviously SATA drives. Does anyone have any experience with connecting avid "compatible" jbods to unity ?
thnak you
Personally, I wouldn't, especially if these guys don't know the answers to those questions. The only Non-Avid Unity-type storage that has a good track record is Archion.

Are you saying that you can add these systems to an existing Unity to expand the total storage space seen and used by the Unity?
Yes.
Just to let you know we have just finishe the installation and it works perfectly
FYI: Archion use a Virtual Partition of the RAID5[Hardware] spool Volume and each Virtual partition is'nt exactly the same with the XTs which means you have to create a separate allocation group for the Archions fron XTs/Engine allocation group.
FYI: There is a specific reason for the volumes to be different from the Avid drives. Combining the Avid drives and the Archion drives in the same allocation group would negate the RAID protection on the Archion chassis. I mean it would only take a single Avid drive to take down the a mixed Allocation group. So to avoid that possiblity, the Archion Vdisk's are purposely made to be a slightly different size. Thus, they cannot be used in the same allocation group with Avid drives. Otherwise, they work the same.
Tooch
=) ohhhh...... too accurate...
p.s. i love the Archion.......
