I have a nvidia Quadro 4500
BTW MC is running now 4 days without any problem on a Vista64 machine.
Curses- I've got a 3700. So it's probably not a particualr card issue.
Still wondering if it could relate to the gpu accelleration. Or the digiaudio drivers and the soundmaxHD soundcard.
But maybe a full reformat and start again is called for. At this stage, it's probably quicker that what I've been doing.

Quick update: I've got a copy of 2.7 I run on a laptop. I was planning to upgrade that to 3 as well, but this issue- and a few projects on the go- gave me the heebie jeebies. Anyway, I thought I'd try installing 2.7 on this new Dell- and hey ho, its working ok. It does give an odd FATAL ERROR on initialising audio- (maybe that was the problem?) but then goes on to run fine, audio and video (so far, touch wood).
I think I'll try running the other version (3.1.1) on the laptop, so I don't have to share dongles- then, once things settle down, might have a try at updating the 2.7 (and I'll chuck in a "soundblaster compatible" soundcard, if necessary!).
Not ideal, but beats doing a complete reformat and set-up of this machine- with no gaurantee it'll produce a better result.
The issue seems to be the digisuite drivers. I guess they just don't want to play nicely with the soundcard. I've un-installed the digisuite, and all is running ok.
This is a pain, but as I don't use the digisuite a lot- and find it a bit limited when I do- I can live with it for a while. (Even audacity- which is free- has a more useful set of tools! but at least the digisuite tools work... reliable and well enough.)
Still looking for ways to make the T5400 run sweetly with MC 3. It is, after all, an over-priced "approved" system. My understanding is that if I open it up and add a soundcard, I void the Dell warranty. Next time I'm not going to be so picky about getting an approved system.
This is the only thread that I found that has my exact error message:
The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application.
Been working on this just about 24 hours a day since last Thursday evening. Long story short, had questionable hard drive, so did new OS on a new hard drive and this is what I kept getting when I would install Avid. Strange thing is, it worked for 3.1.2 since the end of January when I installed MC over Xpress Pro. Did not have any problems. Now with a clean install, I can't get it to work. Finally went with 3.0 from my install disk and was able to make my masters for my client. However, I now get the DAE stubbed error.
I tried everything I could imagine to get it to work. It does seem to be the digisuite drivers. I think I have 7.1 loaded with MC 3.0? 8 which is what 3.1.2 wanted would not allow Avid to boot. If I uninstalled them, then Avid would insist on installing them when you click on it and would require a re-boot. Once I re-booted I got the "The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application."
I would love to have 3.1.2 back, but not sure what to do. Again all was fine on an old install that had all sorts of things installed and uninstalled on it for years and years. Is there a chance that there are digisuite drivers between what I have and 8?

Help -- I'm on V 3.1.3 --I can't even launch Avid. It locks up on "Initializing video display resources". I've tried re-installing, and running registry mechanic and then uninstalling / reinstalling. I uninstalled quicktime and re-installed Quicktime 7.5.5 ---I'm dead in the water. Any suggestions? I just re-formatted my entire computer and re-installed everything 2 weeks ago. Everything was running and it just stopped. I started getting error messages about "AvidVideoMirror" on shutdown and I could only re-open Avid if I would reboot my computer - now I can't open anything. I really don't want to reformat again. It shuts me down for 4-5 days.

I had the same "Appliocation failed....." error message as reported on several posts here. I tried uninstalling/re-installing MC ver 3.0 from my install disks, 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 from the web download and uninstalling the digidesign drivers, all to no avail. However, I followed the link on BLKDOG's post of 31st Jan re the Pace drivers, downloaded the new drivers and installed today. I then installed MC ver 3.1.3 and it's all back! What caused the crash? who knows? This system was working absolutley fine until one day, some days after installs of Sony Vegas and Edius5, coupled with a Windows system update, MC failed. Even after removing all the above, MC still failed to initialise, so perhaps the Pace drivers are the culprit? Hope this helps somebody!! Cheers, Stu
