Hello Everybody,
So I spent the weekend trying to get HD video to upload and disply properly on YouTube. Here's a link to an HD short that I shot on the Panasonic HVX-200 about a year ago and finally got around to finishing. It's a little macabre, but I'd appreciate your feedback.

For comparison, here's the same short uploaded to Vimeo

And lastly, for grins and chuckles, I had another couple shorts that were shot on 30i DV and I converted them to 24p with DVfilm software and upconverted to HD. You can see those at:

The videos that were upconverted are "The Method" and "Excalibur"

Shameless bounce. Just trying to get a couple comments on my shorts. :)

Chris, I'd expect nothing less from you :) Good film too!
Vimeo looks much better than Youtube. What's the deal with that?

Agreed. Starting to build out some Avid content on Vimeo:

I just did add you as a contact, Adam. Thanks.
One thing I've been discovering about Vimeo is that their HD uploads all get converted (currently) to 23.98, so if you upload 30fps HD, it'll look a little stuttery. They say they're working on native frame-rate encoding, which YouTube does already.
As long as you're uploading SD or you're uploading 23.98 HD, I think Vimeo looks better as well.

Thanks for the kind words (I think ) Randall.
Regarding the quality, there's quite a raging debate on Vimeo's user forums about who's quality is better. It seems that many folks think YouTube is doing something to the gamma on upload. I think they both look pretty doggone good. It's hard to believe the new technology.

Nice write-up on the Vimeo community thread Chris. Couldn't agree more on your points. Biggest Vimeo drawback for me is lack of H.264 support. Otherwise, Vimeo is a great place to showcase HD content.

Could you be more specific about this, Adam? Vimeo, at least in their Help section, suggests that you encode H.264.

There still is no native support for H.264. Check out this Vimeo Forum thread started nine months ago, with a staff update 5 days ago.
I just uploaded another short that my friend and I did about 6 years ago. Boy, how time flies!
Anyway, this is an SD short shot at 30i on DV. I used DVFilm software to do a conversion to 23.98, then upconverted to HD for posting on Vimeo. It actually looks pretty good, considering...
Hello -- A Short Film
This short played a few festivals, in the day, and generally got pretty good notices. If you remember the old film, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," you'll know where we got our inspiration.

I agree. I still like the fact that you can easily password protect clips. For me, that's a major bonus.
Chris Great work, watched it on Vimo its looks good quality.
