I recently rebuilt my workstation to run a clean install of Vista Business 64-Bit. I'm referring to Workstation #1 on my profile details. I haven't even installed Media Composer yet and I'm running into some problems.
The graphics appear sluggish when redrawing windows, etc. The problem is amplified when I go into "Aero" mode; I get garbage graphics appearing all over. I have the 64-bit version of the graphics driver installed.
I've checked every setting I could think of but cannot seem to solve this problem. Any ideas?

Did you try putting the graphics card in another slot? I had a similar problem and it was a bad connector on one of the expansion slots.
It is for a PCI-Express slot and I only have one of them. Plus, it worked fine on the same mobo with XP installed. This problem began right after a clean install of Vista Business 64-bit.
I am planning on buying Vista Business 64 bit to go in with my MC upgrade.
I will follow this thread.

Maybe it would be better to do the test with Avid than with Vista Aero, aero shouldn´t be used on any editing sys I think, all the bells and whistles should be turned off, much better to use the copmputer power for editing than to have a fancy screen look.
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
I think this is why Business is almost like Ultimate but with games and media center cut off.
And that's why Avid chose this one for MC.

Well, maybe you should do your installation first George ...

I totally agree. But this is all happening BEFORE Avid is even installed. I've switched between Vista Basic and Aero just to test. The trouble I'm having is just with normal desktop behavior. I haven't even begun to tinker with Avid under these conditions (and I don't plan to until I can sort this out first).
as you are using the os for your hardware test, what is your experience index ?

Yes, my experience index was 4.3, I think.
I tried reinstalling the graphics card driver with no luck.
One thought I have is that maybe the graphics card is not properly seated or needs the pins/slot to be cleaned?
The other thought I have is a faulty installation of Vista causing this. Come to think of it, I did have a problem during the initial installation. At one point, the screen said something about Vista testing the hardware so the software could adjust to the best settings. The test began and early during the progress, it seemed to freeze. I waited about 2 hours and nothing changed. So I powered off and re-booted. Vista seemed to start normally for the first time. But I have not been able to get it to display graphics smoothly or properly.
I'm wondering if there is a way to run that hardware test again and make sure Vista adjusts its settings? Or perhaps I could do some kind of repair re-installation?
"... perhaps I could do some kind of repair re-installation ..."
If it were me, I'd reformat the drive and reinstall Vista from scratch ... unitl it completes normally, with no issues.

one more vote for this procedure, i very often let daddy Bill take care of my probs at first , he is very good at this and it mostly works very well
I think a reformat and reinstall will be the better solution for you as Randall says.
Tommorrow I will also buy DSP Windows Vista Business 64bit for 145 Euros and I will install it for testing.
