Usually it's a hardware issue, specifically a hard drive. I got this error as a result of a hard drive on my EditShare (NAS) server failing. Double check your hard drives.

anything with "spring buffer" in it.. is maybe a hard drive or video card issue. Expert Render all effects... then see. the Spring Buffer...is the next shot in the timeline cueing up. is this an HD project?

running 3 avids. 3.0 on a PC desktop. 3 GB ram 3.00 ghz. same on a PC laptop.(2.2 gb 2.4 ghz) got a Nvidia 1400 card in the PC... running 3.0 on macbook... [view my complete system specs]

No it isn't hd. I just shorten the clip by one frame  and it seemed to do the trick but I will also try expert render next time. Video card issue? Hmmm, that worries me, maybe I should upgrade then
