After searching for a long time (3years) I finally found a way to make great dvd,s that work & look great on TV, plasma, LCD and projectors!
Throw away sonic and squeeze (if you used it to make a DVD) they don't do a good job and squeeze has got a lame mpeg2 codec.
This is what I did; export qt (no ref) use animation codec, single field, rgb (I choose it and it’s always better, even on a TV) million+ colors, highest quality. (I always render my titles 120/185 mxf or in 25i 1:1 mxf)
Buy nero9 (or at least one with Nero vision)
Open Nero vision, make DVD, import qt, import sound as wave file, in preferences click super resolution and there's a button preventing field problems (just click it although it’s single field).
Let Nero do the transcoding to mpeg2 (real mpeg2codec, not squeeze bullcrap!) And burn your DVD!
Watch it on plasma, LCD, TV, projector and cry with happiness!!
I know I did not post my specs but if Nero doesn’t work... Buy a real computer!
If nobody can tell me how to do it and just say, hey run some tests, then I say throw away their crappy software and Nero burn it!!!!
SINGLEFIELD
You are kidding, right? (And shouting, by the way).
I've used TMPEGenc to make MPEG-2's from QT Refs and my MPEG2's look awesome. TMPEGEnc 2.5 has an advanced setting that allows you to bring in movies at 601 color levels. TMPGEnc Xpress 4 seems to detect this automatically. Fabulous 2-pass VBR encoding. And extensive deinterlacing options so you won't have to throw away half the vertical resolution.
Hi job,
So you still need an external converter, why? and why interlace when you can export it single field?
I know there are more programs that do a better jog than squeeze but why use more programs?
export qt and make dvd seems to me the most easy way without using a stand-alone converter. By the way there is extensive material info on making dvd's without the pal/ntsc setting but just singlefield. Try my workaround and judge for yourself or just do it the way you like it!

Have to agree with Job. NERO has become, over the years, a perfect example of bloatware. Not to mention how drastically and dangerously NERO occupies every nook and cranny of your computer. Not a nice piece of software.

Ok, and plextor, roxio, sonic, and squeeze don't? + you dont have to install all parts right.
Didnt mean to shout, my capslock was on and didnt wanna re-type(didnt wanna shout).
I dont care as long is it does its job, and all the other stuff i mentioned dont and they dont come up with solutions too.
I thought pal is upper and ntsc lower field, that is why ntsc or pal is always 50% of your image. single field is a progressive frame as it is the whole frame without the interlacing. when working with 3d software it is pal/ntsc or progressive...(single field). In my book single field is both fields without the interlacing...
Hey guys didnt mean to shout, or tell some cocky story, this worked for me and a lot a couple of editors whom with me had a lot of trouble making a good dvd...
So try it or don't as i said i didnt mean to start a whole discussion about making a dvd because i am glad i dont have to anymore!!
Single field is not the same as progressive. You are losing half of your visual information.
In agreement, Unity. In Disagreement, Discussion. In all things, Charity.

Nice it worked well for you all, maybe I should put all my editing stuff into a drawer and go back to Nero and windows moviemaker.
By the way, what editing apps are you using, you have posted about Avid Studio in your profile, could you specify that.

This is the first time I hear something like that. Nero got a better encoder than Sonic DVD it.
This doesn't sound right at least.
I have directed/produced over 100 TV shows on DVD (plus docs and shorts) the last 3 years from Liquid's timeline. I used also DVDit for very few of them.
DVD were excellent and I am saying that by watching them playing on air.
I never thought of trying Nero for that job.
I don't trust it even for burning. I prefer VSO's CopyToDVD.

Sonic is ok, squeeze doesnt use good mpeg2 codec, i what i mean was the workaround using squeeze.

Squeeze's main mission isn't to make DVD's.
But how can a 70 euros program to compete the encoder of a 500 program?
I thought 25i was interlaced and 25p stood for progressive. progressive the whole frame and interlaced the 601 lines, pal with 2more than ntsc. When i watch pal on lcd i can see the fields, when watching single field exported video i dont. If you can explain why ther's a choice between upper/lower and single field, but single field is not both i'll be a happy man.
I understand if you film interlaced and than export single field you throw half away cuz its 50% in the next frame, otherwise i dont see why i cant call it progressive?
I know mastering takes even mote expensive software, even 2000 dollar hardware to be on your way. But if you ask avid, they say squeeze using sorenson and burn with avid dvd, dvd it, or some other sonic program.
That is the only reason i named those programs. When i say making dvd i dont mean hollywood glassmasters
