I have a sequens in 16:9 that I want to export. but when I try to export it as a quick time movie it end up as a 4:3 sequens.
I have also tried to do a digital cut but it becomes 4:3 on the tape as well.
Whats wrong? What do I miss?
What is the format of the project? I would assume it's 30i. Suggest you change the project format to an HD format and try again.

Assuming that the sequence is anamorphic, you need to apply the 16:9 reformat effect before you export. This will letterbox the clip. OR, If it's for quicktime you could also adjust the dimensions to something that is in the 16:9 aspect ratio

If you're exporting for DVD don't whatever you do reformat. Instead export as-is and tell your encoding software that the media is 16:9. That way it will play back at fullscreen and full resolution on a 16:9 monitor, and letterboxed 16:9 on a 4:3 monitor.

Good advice. If applicable, follow it.
At first the footage was in DVC PRO HD.
But since I wanted to do a digital cut as a SD format, I modified the sequens to 25i PAL and changed the project format to 25i PAL. Then I did a videomixdown to change the resolution to DV 25 420. I tried to export the sequens as a quicktime movie and the result came out in 4:3.
If I try with a export as quicktime again, how do I adjust the dimensions to something that is in the 16:9 aspect ratio?
I am from Europe, so I use 25i instead of 30i.
Thanks
In the export dialogue box, there's a setting that determines the aspect ratio of the resulting QT file (Display Aspect Ratio). It is at the bottom right of the dialogue box. You can choose to set it to native (720x576) or 4x3 (768x576) or 16x9 (1024x768). Set it to 16x9.
Manual says:
The display aspect ratio allows you to apply a scaling to the video: Native, 4:3, or 16:9. The display aspect ratio lets you control the display format without modifying the source file. This feature creates metadata - additional data that is stored with the QuickTime movie. Some applications, such as the QuickTime Player, can interpret this metadata and scale the image at display time.Display aspect ratio is useful for the Same as Source option because that option also preserves the original format. When you select Same as Source, the selections in the Display Aspect Ratio area are based on the resolution of the media you are exporting and the project type (NTSC or PAL).When you select Custom, your Avid editing application calculates the Display Aspect Ratio selections on the values you enter for Width x Height in the Video Format tab.
The Avid does not support the (non-standard) widescreen flag for output to tape. All 16x9 PAL SD lives in the 720x576 environment. It's merely a question of display aspect ratio.

Hi,
If I want to do a digital cut, is there a " 16:9 reformat effect"? Where do I find it? In the effects editing toolset?
It's in the Effect pallet under "Reformat"

Thanks,
Is the 16:9 reformat effect the best way when I want to do a digitalcut? The original footage is in 16:9.
If you are digital cutting in SD, yes. Remember, if you are playing out HD (or 16 x 9 SD for that matter) in SD, the 16 x 9 footage is actually 4 x 3 Anamorphic and will need a reformat effect to make it 16 x 9 letterbox.
The original footage is in 16:9 HD. But I would like to do a digital cut to SD. So then its ok with the 16:9 reformat effects, right?
Sure, just change your project's format to SD using the format tab (assuming that you have a compatible project/media type), apply the reformat and output.
Do I have to use the 16:9 reformat effect when I want to export a sequens as well?
It depends on what format you want the sequence to be when you encode. If you want it to be 16 x 9 (No letterbox) then export directly from the HD project format. If you want an SD 16 x 9 letterbox, then just export the sequence from the SD project format with the reformat effect.
