Re: Meridien system on a new computer

Avid has qualified the following CPUs for use on Meridien systems

    IBM Intellistation M-Pro Model 6889

                               Z-Pro Model 6866

    Compaq W 8000

    HP XW 8000

The release notes for the version of MC XL you plan on running states clearly the CPUs supported.

For the unitiated, Supported in Avid Terminolgy means tested and qualified.

You, of course, are free to try another CPU but you'd be in uncharted waters.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply!  I was afraid there would need to be some fancy riggin' goin' on with the system.  I havn't received it yet, and I currently have a CPU that i'm gonna try out.  I'll keep up to date on my progress.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN

Re: Meridien system on a new computer

Well first all al cards in an Meridian MC are, as far as i know, all PCI. You need a motherboard with enough pci slots. Then there is a graphic card issue. What kind of graphic card will you be using? Avid made it's own in Meridian systems. Avid gives the instructions to put certain cards in certain slots. From experience I can tell you that putting the cards in other slots can cause problems... and that was on qualified systems..

Then what software version will you be running? And which operating system? Meridian on XP.... who knows.... I know it worked on NT and windows 2000 prof..... There too many variables to say what works and what doesn;t. If you have plenty of time and some money to spend trying things can be fun and give you a very fast meridian but garanties..... no!

My advice... get yourself a used HP XW8000. It's a good machine and you can find them used arround 500 euro... or even less..

.And in my experience it's getting more and more dificult to find all the documentation on all the old systems and board revisions etc...

Tucked in the middle of Northern Wisconsin’s Chequamegon National Forest is a little slice of the Northwood’s called Clam Lake.
