Dear community,
we have over 5 composer systems on qualified hp xw8400/8600 boxes. We have always put internally 4 x sata drives and configured them in RAID 5. This configuration works beautifully. We have just taken in a brand new mac pro. I want to do the same but have just found out you can only put inside an additional 3 drives (there is more space in the HP) in the mac. I want to configure the drives in RAID 5 but there is no option available to do this in both the atto express stripe and disk utility software on the mac. The only options available are single drives or RAID 0.
Can someone help me please.
cheers

How did you generate RAID 5 on the PC? Via Intel app?
RAID 5 partially needs to be implemented at the hardware level. This is why OS X and Windows do not include it natively. The HP xw8400 and xw8600 computers for example has a hardware based RAID SAS/SATA on board. You need a hardware RAID card on your Mac. G-Tech of Highpoint has one.

we have never used an additional hardware board on the hp. Just hit CTRL+I on startup and go into disk configuration and set the disks to a RAID 5 configuration - it's free. No extra boards neccessary.
As I mentioned, the xw8400 and 8600 has a hardware based SATA/SAS controller on board allowing you to do RAID 0, 1 and 5.
