    Media composer for iBook G4

     Hello,

I would like to purchase a copy of Avid (would prefer media composer but wouldnt mind express pro/dv), but would like to run it on my iBook G4. The specs are as follows 1.33ghz, 1.25gb ram, only 60gb hdd, but have 350gb external and latest version mac osx leopard 10.5.5. I guess it would have to be an old version as most of the updated versions have too higher spec.

What versions would run on my iBook? Or am I being too optimisted to think avid would run on my system?

    Cheers

It would be tough for you to find a version that does. Those iBooks didn't have a lot of processing power. The best bet would be xpress Pro but neither that product nor Xpress DV are made by Avid anymore. The only software available for purchase now is MC and it certainly won't run on the iBook.

You might try ebay for the older software.

this link says that i require at least 1.67ghz to run express pro 5.8, but would it run on my 1.33ghz machine?

The thing you have to worry about with the 5.x releases is the graphics card, The requirements went way up after those were released. That's why, to be on the safe side, I would start with 4.8.4 and OS 10.4.6. Any OS higher than that and the Avid software won't launch.

Avid Xpress DV worked fine on my ibook G4. Give this a try, if you can get a copy.

I am trying to get avid MC up and running on a mac laptop. The laptop is running mac os 10.5.6 has 4gb memory intel core 2 due processor 2,66ghz. Ut is a new laptop and I am trying to run MC verison 2.6 or 2.8. I can install with no problems but when I put my dongle in and try to open MC apllication I get an error, I have tried this on various other macs and have the same problme yet the dongl is a floating licencse and its all legit software.

Any help would be greatly apriciated as I seem to be going in circles.

    Welcome to the forums.

First of all, please start a new thread when you make a new topic.  This post has nothing to do with trying to run older XPress software on a laptop, so it will be harder to have people help you when the topic is wrong.

That being said, if you look at the Avid Version Matrix, you will see that 2.6 is only qualified for OS X Tiger, not Leopoard. That's probably the major issue you are dealing with.

I also ran XDV on a 1.33 ghz iBook years back.  See if you can track that down on ebay.
