I wonder if there is a way to import WMV file into AVID media composer without first convertion to QT. there must be a sort of a plug-in which gives yiu this option but i'm not familiar with it.

Sorenson Squeeze converts to several Avid compatible formats too, and it's coming bundled with Avid, no need to shop for another software. Regarding Your question: sorry, this means no direct import, but Squeeze on a fast machine is quite efficient.
