Hi i have just recently started using avid again, but for some reason when i play the time line the source and record video wont play properly, when i play a clip the audio plays ok but the video freezes, but it updates the picture when i stop playing? Can somebody help please.
Hi, we need to know the version of the software, what CPU you are using and what OS.
THis is usually due to an unsupported video card.

FCP2Avid
Software is Avid Xpress DV 4, OS is OSX 10.4.11 intel mac 8gb memory graphics display , ATY, RadeonX1900 on apple cinema type lcd.
Ive been using the system mostly for FCP but i have an edit coming up next month and he has an avid so i just want to brush up on my avid editing skills.
If you need any more info let me know, thanks Emmet
Can you tel us the exact version number of the Avid application please?
The highest OS qualified for XDV was 10.4.3 and QT 7.0.3. Depending on your version of Avid. Check that ATI card to make sure that it supports Open GL, Quartz Extreme and has a minimum of 128 megs of VRAM.
XDV will not work on a Intel Mac. Though your computer installed XDV it's actually running through Apple's PowerPC>Intel translation technology called Rosetta. XDV was only written for PowerPC's and is not a Universal Binary as the newer software from Avid is. The video drivers especially don't translate.
XDV works on a G4 or G5 mac. It's not suppose to work beyond 10.3.9 but it can run in Tiger...though just not on a Intel mac.
Oh yeah...and that too.
Thanks for the response, I guess i'l have to figure out an alternative way to brush up on my avid skills, is it possible to get some form of avid trial version for my mac? Emmet
Currently there is no trial version of the Avid software.
Do you mean Xpress DV 4.0 not compatible with mac oc 10.3.11.
Mine spec: Macbook pro, Mac OS X version 10.4.11, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, with 2 GB 667MHz Ram.
And i am using Xpress DV 4.0 having the same image freezing while audio playing problems.
Any solution if it is not compatible?
Thanks!

As of now, the answer is yes. A 14 day free trial of Media Composer is available for download.
