I am about to pull my afro out folks...
I have a Dell XPS M1530, running vista 32-bit business edition, 4 Gb of ram, all the stinkin' bells and whistles and I cannot even get MC 3.0 to load on my PC. It keeps telling me that I have an unsupported config. Starngely enough a few months ago, I loaded version 2.8 on the same PC and it (sorta) worked...okay, well at least it loaded. Which is why I decided to purchase version 3.0...so...
Before I run to the nearest smoking gun shop and purchase a .22 to end the computer's miserable spewage, can someone help me out? I know there are other XPS owners that have gotten 3.0 to load and work...
Any assistance would be massively appreciated.
Hi,
What's the exact message you're seeing? What processor, video card, and version of Quicktime are installed on the system?
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
The exact message is "unsupported configuration: cancelling installation". I have a GeForce 8600M Nvidia card (512Mb) and Duo core T9300 2.50 gHz, no version of quicktime installed. I know that Avid would like for you to have a Nvidia Quadro card however, since I installed version 2.8 on my PC before I figured that this one would work also...
Thanks!
install QT first (right version for your AVid!) and try again

Okay, installed QT and still it is giving me the same error message:
"You are installing on an unsupported configuration, installation ending"
Some else to note, it will install all of the other programs such as meta sync, but will not load Media Composer. Thanks for all your advice folks...
Take a look at your documentation that came with 3.0. I think you get one free support call with it, and I'd try giving them a call and see if they can see what might be causing the trouble. The only time I've seen an installation quit is if the OS isn't supported, but you're running Vista Business, so that's not it.
Thanks. I gave Avid products a call and they told me to go buy a tested PC. Unfortunately that is not an option so hopefully Avid tech can help. I was just hoping that someone on here has dealt with this issue before. Thanks again...

That's weird, because the system is close enough to the system requirements that it ought to at least install, even if it doesn't run correctly.
If you don't get anywhere with tech support, come back here and we'll see what we can do.
The only time I got that error from Avid is trying to install it on a wrong OS (was testing 2.7 on Vista).
Is your OS a standard installation? (C drive, one drive, etc)

Yes, Vista is a standard install...
I bet you do not have installed the SP1 for Vista ;) And it needs to be an original licensed version with all updates.
Yes Service Pack 1 has been installed and this is an original licensed version ....and it has been updated to the hilt...
