No video or audio signal from Panasonic DVCPRO HD deck in AXP

Hi - I am really hoping someone can help me. I am trying to capture via firewire from a Panasonic dvcproHD aj1400 deck. I have deck control, but I can't get any video or audio. I have tried changing format settings, changing some menu options on the deck, and changing FW cables - all to no avail. I can't think of any more solutions.

I am using Avid Xpress Pro 5.7. I have captured with FW before, but never from this deck. The masters are 1080i, by the way, but even with that format setting, I am getting nothing. The editor who passed this project on to me edited this same material in 30i NTSC, but she was on an Adrenaline.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

This is usually due to the fact that the video output from the deck not being set to FW (or sometimes i-Link) out. Are you certain you have checked your deck's output settings?

Great idea! I have not checked that, and of course, I do not have the manual. Any idea what menu code that is?

    update:

I downloaded the manual and changed the proper settings in the deck, but I am still not getting any video or audio. Does anyone have any other suggestions? It's so frustrating.

To what is your video input set on the Avid?

Try doing a reset all to default settings on the Panasonic deck. There may be some unlikely menu setting causing this.

I had this same issue with a 1200A, it turned out to be a problem with My OSX user account. Created a new OS user and the problem wet away.

    Common things to check

    1. Input is set 1394

    2. DIF settings - speed, format, etc

    3. System settings should be set to auto

You need to go into the DIF settings on the deck menu and make sure that your HD format is being downconverted to DV25 and that the speed of the port is set to S100 and not S400.

MacPro, MacBook Pro and a Cube. The Cube doesn't do much but it looks cool. [view my complete system specs]
