Hi Kevin:
Is this version of Media Composer compatible with The Avid Studio Toolkit version 5.7 ? I have MC 3.0.0 installed and working with version v 5.7 on my PC.
The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
Do I need to un-install version 3.0 before installing 3.0.5?
Joachim Claus
Yes. There are details for installation in the ReadMe.
Michael.
Now that there are downloads are newer than what came on the CD, what is the install process on a new system? In other words, what do we install from the CDs, what do we NOT install from the CDs, and what order do we do this in? Should we first install the MC 3.0.5 download version, then the Goodies, then the Sample Media, and then install everything OTHER than these three items from the CDs? Are some of the CDs not needed at all anymore?
Thanks for any clarification on this,
Larry
For me
lalittle:Now that there are downloads are newer than what came on the CD, what is the install process on a new system?
For me updating 3.0.0 and not wanting goodies or sample media I just unpacked the zip file. Selected launch and selected Avid suite parts I wanted. It did not ask about uninstalling earlier versions, (an Avid first for me) it just got on and did it. Quick standard error message about not passing Windows blah blah. No restart. Straight into the program and start working. (XP SP2) Same on two machines.
AndrewAction: Assuming you have versioned your dongle for MC 3 already just download and install the parts you want from the 3.0.5 update.

Just to clarify, is the basic idea that we now completely ignore the Avid disc in the DVD case and ONLY install the discs in the "soft pouch" thing (3rd party stuff)? Am I correct that the 3.0.5 download is essentially an updated version of the entire "Avid install disc"? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything after the install.
Ironically, the README actually instructs to uninstall the earlier version first, so it's interesting that it worked without doing this. Maybe the installer is actually designed to work without uninstalling the old version first, but they're just being cautious in the README.
Thanks,

It use to be that. I do not remember the total layout of the DVD, but You may also download the goodies and example project zips.

Do not quote me in court, but my experience during the last couple of updates is that the installer does uninstall MC before it install it. But it may change, I have not test 3.0.5.
Is there a downloadable readme anywhere?
Thanks
Readme.

Just want to say well done to the Avid team.
These new segment select modes have to be one of the biggest moves forward on the Avid UI for a very long time No seriously! It is simple enhancements like this that we have been shouting for for years. Small things that make everyone's lives quicker and easier - and in a point point release as well! If these are the kind of improvements that we are going to get on a regular basis then I am very excited. In the past we would have had to have waited until a major release for this kind of improvement (i.e. mouse button mapping, RT Timecode). I want to be able to move groups of audio keyframes (rubber banding) sideways next please!

Playing with the new feature some more I can see one improvement that could be helpful.
On the Clip/Sequence Report dialogue it would be useful if the selections were remembered so that you didn't have to reselect them every time.
Otherwise a fantastic addition and the Locators popup disabling is something that was asked for ever since the Locators tool changed a few releases ago. Thanks for finally getting it right. Well done.
Huh. Now you u send the e-mail. I'm a 2.8 user who missed the FREE update to 3.0. Got the e-mail now that it's not free. Thanks Avid. Selling Avid stock tomarrow.
