Hi Editors:
Does anyone from Avid or this thread know when or if Win XP Pro will be certified to use MC 3.0 with Service pack 3 ? I know this subject has been raised at the beginning of the Summer, and the last notice from Avid was they were testing it, but now it's Fall, so what's the word on it ? Should we even care if we can use it with Service pack 3 anyway ? Can anyone advise me as to what the advantages to using Win XP Pro with Service Pack 3 would be along with MC 3.0 ?
The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
Hi Mark,
You've been around long enough to know 1) Avid doesn't generally give out a lot of hints or progress reports about future OS support and 2) speculating about such things on the forums isn't allowed, so quit speculating about XP SP3 support. The last word on it is still current; they're testing it.
As for whether you should care or anyone's experience with MC 3 and XP SP3, hopefully someone running them together will chime in about that.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
Running service pack 3 and MC3.0 on all 3 of our avids (2 workstations and 1 laptop) and no problems at all.
I've had to install SP3 to be able to install the Digidesign driver that would not install without an obscure MS hotfix, making DAE not functional. Not knowing what the required hotfix was I took the route to install them all via SP3 and everything is working fine so far.

.-Same here, actually the Avid "feels" better.

We've been on SP3 since it was released and haven't had any grief from it. I'd say go ahead and try it. It does fix a lot of other non Avid stuff...

I built a new system specifically for MC3, and mistakenly installed XP SP3. It has caused me absolutely no problems whatsoever. I can't say whether it has caused Avid to "feel" better or not, since I've only run MC3 this way.

...With all due respect and humility Sir, it is blaintantly unfair to acuse me of speculation on this subject. Yes, you are correct, I have indeed been around long enough to know not to speculate on Avid products, but asking for an update on a subject Avid personnel have already addressed does not meet any definition of speculation I am aware of. If I am in error regarding asking about this issue, then please feel free to delete this thread, as I am not aware I have broken any website rules by my post and doing so is unintentional on my part. I sincerely thought this was an appropriate question. Perhaps I was in error (??)

I'm not planning to delete the thread, because the question "How does MC 3.0 work with XP SP 3?" is a legit question.
"When will MC 3.0 work with XP SP 3?" however, is not legit, because it asks for other people to start guessing about the OS support in a future release of an Avid product, which isn't allowed.
Terms of Use:Do not speculate on Avid decisions or products that have not been released, issues with repair procedures, or Avid policies and procedures.
Asking when Avid might release a version of MC that supports XP SP 3 falls under speculation on Avid products that have not been released, and is therefore not allowed.
So quit it.

On the whole guys regardless of service pack 3 , are you all happy with version 3 ? I only ask this as we have 20 ( creaking ) xw8000s which ideally I'd like to phase out with the goal of running everything at version 3.
Considering the current financial climate I have to show that it's better to buy new workstations than fix them with tape or sticky back plastic. My xw8000s have become a bit of a liability with some being 6 years old or so and having had hard drives , graphics cards and even ram replaced.
The analogy of having had the same broom for twenty fives years and only replace the handdle twice and the head three times springs to mind.
My wife gave me a choice 'either the Media Composer goes or I do' I had to think about it.
I have stopped my 8000 on 2.8 where it has been completely reliable. The 8000 may or may not be happy with 3.
I am using 3 on 8200 and 8600 and its happy on them.
Thanks for the continued dongle support
Hi all,
Here's an update to my original answer: With today's release of MC 3.0.5, Windows XP Service Pack 3 is approved.
