I'm exporting 720x480 quicktimes for a ProTools sound designer. He said they typically receive tapes, digitize into Final Cut and then export quick times for play back in ProTools.
I don't have a deck so I'm going to export the quick times for him, and then if he wants to take them through his normal Final Cut route he can.
All that to say - should I do H.264 or will Avid same as source be okay as long has he has the codec installed? Just trying to avoid rendering and crap in Final Cut so as to not exasperate him. He will be taking through final cut because I think they compress them (he said 30 minutes usually equals 6GB).
THANKS.

DV25. Capture it as DV25 and export it using QT .dv file format.
Avid QT codecs seems to not work well in FCP.

You could also examine the AAF/OMF export functions. These are designed to work with Protools directly without converting it to a QT format

thanks! i'll do dv.
they have all these quicktime standards like size of 720 x 480 and such so including the video with the OMF probably will not make them happy.
appreciate the advice!
Yes, I'm confused as to why a ProTools guy would recommend such a workflow from an Avid editor.
Export as AAF (consolidate and embed) you can do the video as "photo JPEG" to save space.
Perhaps the PT guy thinks you're on FCP?

A lot of PT guys ue just DV out for video playback. I'm not too familiar with PT, but I think you need to purchase the Adrenaline BOB/AV option to play any Avid codecs outside of DV25.
