To be fair to Matrox they do enable the Apple Cinema display to be used for cost effective quality monitoring it offers more than just putting video on an LCD they do a lot of processing to get accuracy .

Yes, but if this is a correct way to correct color, why can Panasonic, JVC and Sony take 4 to 10 times as much for a monitor? Is it because they are robbing us or is it because there are differences between a computer monitor and a video monitor?

NICKB & Blitzer, doubling the software price will make it even more difficult to beat the competition, if the company is selling the software at the current price, and the competition prices are similiar, that means that the price is right. As I said a few posts ago, Avid is an hardware company, they happen to make software that runs on their hardware; the thing is that other than Avid hardware cost has gone down a lot lately, while Avid hardware remains pricey.

MC 3.0.5/Mojo, Vista 64 biz, Gigabyte GA-EP45T-EXTREME, Intel Q9450, 8 GB ram, Pyro 64, Quadro FX 1700, 2 x 1TB drives (raid 0) for mediafiles + G4 MacBook... [view my complete system specs]

If this really still is the case, Avid's days in NLE are numbered.

The difference between a AJA Kona 3 w/BOB and a Nitris DX is about 10k.  That's tough to justify in my mind.  The difference between FCS2 and MCSoft is about 1k.  That's a no-brainer - and still would be at 2-3k.

My gut feeling is that Avid is moving in the right direction, but the real challenge is doing it quickly enough.

True for Mojo but Nitris DX is approx half Adrenaline PP (and even better against Adrenaline HD).  Adrenaline was approx half Meridian's PP.

This just to verify that hardware prices are going down, but not as fast as they should when it comes to Avid.

This is what we all hope, we would not be here discussing it otherwise, we all would be running FC Express instead Big Smile

Agreed the Avid software is too cheap,  it should be twice the price at least.

You have got to be kidding me!  Isn't this the same forums that complained that MC was too expensive just 12 months ago?  Anyone here who wants to pay $5,000 for MC software raise their hand?  No one?  Didn't think so.

The "cheap software genie" is out of the bottle and will never go back in.  What Avid needs to do is find the balance of product and services to survive...and one that will not be based on cheap editing software.

    Too cheap?   geeez....

    luca.mg:
FC land: FC Express, FCS; Adobe land: Premiere, After FX; in other words one editing product coupled with a finishing product, is that simple, but in Avid land there are three overlapping products, MC, Symphony and DS, one of them being redundant, which one?

Not exactly true, here's 14 variations of Final Cut off the top of my head:

    FCS

    FCS +I/O

    FCS +I/O LA

    FCS +I/O LD

    FCS +I/O HD

    FCS+ KONA LHe

    FCS+ KONA LSe

    FCS+ KONA 3

    +K - Box

    FCS+ Decklink Intensity

    FCS+ Decklink SD

    FCS+ Decklink SD/HD

    FCS+ MATROX

    FCS+ MATROX 2

Cheap..but not too cheap?  Autodesk still gets $3,500+ for 3ds Max.  Why doesn't everyone just use Cinema 4D for half the price?

The issue is the hardware.  Imagine if Adobe CS only ran on specially branded Adobe PCs (at 5x the real cost).  That's what Avid looks like to those that came into the industry in the FCP era.  The value is in, and price should be in, MC.

That's 14 FCS + hardware I/O combos, still FCS is FCS and is not FCS light, FCS mild, FCS strong Geeked; none of those "variations" will cost as much as MC + Mojo DX if I reckon.
