We are onlining with a Symphony Nitris PC(1.7.7), and offlining with Media Composer Meridian (12.1.1), and all on a Unity and SD. Sometimes I will take a bin from the Symphony to the Meridians (which we use for up res). The bin will open on the Meridian, but when I bring it back to the Symphony, it won't open. I just get an error that I'm not sure if it's OS or Symphony error. Even after that the bin still works on the Mac. I've been pulling bins from the attic to get around it, because the original bins are toast, but it's a real pain.
Any thoughts?
Three reasons I know of that a bin won't open.
1: It is the same bin that is already open. Avid writes some hidden stuff in the bin file that give a unique identifier to it. For example, if you make a copy of a bin at the finder level, and change the filename, then try to open it when the original is open, it won't open.
The fast way to isolate this is to close all bins and then try to open the one you are interested in.
2: Permissions issues. You can check in Windows to see if you have full permissions to the bin. this is usually obvious in your project as any bin with improper permissions will have question marks where the bin size would be.
3: The file is corrupted. This is rare in my experience, unless the bin has been sent over the internet which can screw them up pretty good. Safest way to do that is to ZIP them before e-mailing.

I've seen a similar thing:
Going from an OSX Meridien (12.1.1 I think) to an Adrenaline (2.7.7 I believe...interesting, no? 2.7.7 MC= 1.7.7SN), bins containing items coming from the Meridien could not be opened on the Adrenaline. I don't recall the error right now.
In troubleshooting, it appeared that brand new bins--newly created from the Meridien--could be transferred and opened to the Adrenaline. But as soon as anything was saved into the bin (clip, sequence, whatever), the bin ceased to be useable by the Adrenaline.
I checked bin settings (27 characters, windows names, etc, as well as fonts/font sizes used in the bin) and nothing I tried made a difference.
The only thing I was able to do was export the bin from the Meridien as an ALE (Avid Log Exchange), take the txt file over to the Adrenaline, create a new bin on the Adrenaline and then import the log into that bin. Relink, and Bob's your uncle.
No idea why it was happening, but we've since worked around it and moved on.

So you are going from a Symphony Nitris, newer system which happens to be on a PC, to an older Avid on a MAC?
I think thats why you are having issues.
