Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

    Hello Avid Lovers,

On a 4perf 24p project, I am trying to create a cutlist and pulllist. All is well except that the labroll or the tape both have 'missing TC' or 'missing labroll' written in the list. The rushes bins in MC 2.8 Mac have the  both the tape names and the labroll info intact. The wierd thing is that the capture tool tape list is empty. This is a project that has been copied over many machines and I seem to remember that there was a very strong corollation between the keycodes, labrolls etc and the capture tool tape list. So, firstly, where is the capture tool tape names list held, because I don't think it is in the project and are there any ideas where I can find the labrolls in filmscribe?
    Thanks

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

Verify that the sequence used to create the cutlist or pullist has data in the Tape and Labroll bin headings. To do this, place the sequence in a bin by itself and Set Bin Display to show all the master clips in the sequence. In the Bin Headings, display "Tape" and "Labroll" bin headings. Is there data for Tape and Labroll for all the master clips? If a clip was captured thru the Capture Tool, there must be a tape name associated with the clip. If the clips were imported they will not have a tape name.To change a tape name associated with master clips, right mouse click on the master clips in a bin and "Modify". Select "Set Source" from the pulldown menu. The Capture Tool Select a Tape window opens. You can select a different tape name or create a new one to associate with the master clips. In FilmScribe, verify that Labroll and Tape Name is enabled in the options window when creating the list.

    Thank you for the reply.
All of the above have been checked. The Labrolls & tape numbers are intact in the avid bins. I cannot change the tape names as this is a feature film there are literally hundreds. Any other ideas?

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

I am having the same problem, except my labroll and camroll fields either show up blank, or are filled with several lines of garbage (looks like below).  The tape number will show up one time in maybe 20, the rest of the time it's blank.  I think it may be an issue with this system, because I was having problems with Filmscribe before, and they were apparently related to not upgrading properly when I went to a new version of Avid.  I will try them on a different system when I get a chance and let you know if this resolves the problem.

    Example:

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

Well, I've solved my problem anyway.  I had to install the version of FilmScribe that came with Avid Xpress 4.8.4 for Mac (looks like 21.8.3).  Thankfully, it still runs on my MacBook Pro under Tiger.

When I run the list in that version, it works fine.  Labroll, camroll, and tape information all come up.  Conversely, when I run any lists in the new version, I can't get the info.  I've tried sequences from my current project, as well as sequences from a project from two years ago that I know I used to be able to generate lists on without a problem.  I've tried the new Filmscribe on two different Macs and a PC, same results.  My guess is that there is a bug in Filmscribe that is causing this.

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

I'm getting similar things on my system when I go to make lists. Tape ID won't show up and I've had cam and lab roll not show up before as well.

I was hoping the upgrade to 3.0.5 would solve the problem, but alas it hasn't.

I'd like to downgrade to a 2.8 version of filmscribe as well - which, like you, I've had no problems with - but all my machines are now on Leopard and I'd need Tiger to run it.

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

With me this began when I upgraded to 3.0 on a Leopard system. It is still bad on 3.05.

I have had to transfer bins with sequences to my Laptop running 10.4.11, AMC 2.8 and whatever the version of Filmscribe that comes with 2.8 (sorry not on my laptop at the moment).

Those sequences generate the lists I want with the LabRoll and Camera Roll etc columns complete. Unlike 3.05 and Leopard.

This is ultra annoying as it has kept me from upgrading my laptops.

Re: Filmscribe Missing Labroll & tape number in list

So the lists work fine on the version of FilmScribe that came with Media Composer 2.8.4 as well.  The problem is just the version that comes with MC3 and above.

Fortunately, you can run the old version of FilmScribe with Media Composer 3.0.5, even on Leopard.  It just requires a bit of doing.  If you're interested in getting it to work, follow these steps exactly (I take absolutely no responsibility if it messes up your system, but it works fine for me at least).

    1) Download the installers for MC2.8.4 and MC3.0.5

    2) Mount the MC2.8.4 installer and install FilmScribe from the "Other Installers" folder.

    3) Go to "/Library/Application Support/" and rename the folder called "Avid" to "Avid.old"

    4) Mount and install MC3.0.5.  This will require a reboot.

    5) After testing MC3.0.5 to make sure it runs, go to "/Library/Application Support/" and rename the folder called "Avid" to "Avid.new" (You should have two Avid folders now, "Avid.old" and "Avid.new", but not one called just "Avid").

    6) Download and unzip the archive at http://community.avid.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Components.UserFiles/00.00.05.48.72/FilmScribeLoader.zip .  There are two files in the archive, "LoadFilmScribe.sh" and "FilmScribeLoader.term".  Place them both in "/Applications/Avid FilmScribe/".

    7) Double click on "FilmScribeLoader.term" to start FilmScribe.

The problem is that the new version of Media Composer overwrites some dynamic libraries that the old version of FilmScribe requires to be able to run.  The LoadFilmScribe.sh script just points a symlink to the old version of the libraries where Avid normally looks for them, opens FilmScribe.app, waits ten seconds, and then changes the symlink to point to the new libraries so MC3.0.5 will start properly.  The FilmScribeLoader.term is just a handy way to be able to run the shell script from the Finder.  You can even have FilmScribe and Media Composer open simultaneously with no apparent problems.  I've tested this on both Tiger (10.4.11) and Leopard (10.5.2) and it works on both systems.

But Avid really should fix this problem with FilmScribe stat, IMO.

EDIT: Probably should have made it clear that you should use FilmScribeLoader.term whenever you want to load FilmScribe, not just the first time.  You shouldn't have to do anything special to load Media Composer, though (just don't try to load it while the shell script is running).
