Currently running DS Nitris 8.0 on local storage. We've added a Unity 5.0 storage array to support 3 edit suites (DS//Symph./MC). We would also like to upgrade the DS software to version 10. However I'm getting mixed signals on supported configurations. I'm told that DS on Unity is only supported using a 32-bit OS. I've also been told that DS10 is runs on a 64 bit OS only.
Is DSv10 64bit only?
If so, I suppose my only option to connect to the Unity is upgrade the DS to 8.4 and use XP32 for the OS.
DS V10 is not 64bit only. The 64bit version if only required if you are doing 444, which Unity won't do anyway.
My understanding is that DS V10 is fully supported on Unity and Interplay.
That's good news. Thanks for the clarification Gus.
Avid DS using Nitris, Nitris-Dual-Link or Dual-Link only will indeed ONLY be supported on Windows XP x64 Edition.
Avid DS v10.0 will work on Avid Unity MediaNetwork because the 5.1 release now support 64-bit clients, so no need for 32-bit XP anymore. ISIS supports 64-bit clients since a while ago.
Only Avid DS Software and Avid DS RP will still be supported on XP 32-bit.
You also need to tell us what workstation you are running because not all legacy workstations make the transition to Avid DS v10.0, nor Avid Unity for that matter.

We don't use dual link.
Current DS v8.0, CPU xw8000 with Nitris hardware. We're upgrading the DS CPU to a HPxw8400.
Current RP is a HP xw8000. I'm going to guess that the 8000 isn't qualified for an RP on DS v10.0
What about RAM? From what I understand:
- Avid supports up to 4 Gigs of RAM on a xw8400 running XP 32 bit (not an option given the 64 bit OS requirement for DS v10.0 using Nitris hardware).
- Avid supports larger RAM configurations on an xw8600 running XP 64 bit.
What's unclear is, how much RAM on an xw8400 running XP64 that Avid will support.?
Regarding a 64bit OS the more RAM the merrier, right? I'm having a difficult time getting a straight answer from Avid on how much RAM is supported on the xw8400. I appreciate any input you can provide.
Haze, you can absolutely use your xw8000 for your RP.
My current configuration is an HPXW8400 with 10 gb of ram, dual quadcore 2.33ghz. There are 8 slots for ram on the 8400, so if you used 4gig sticks, you could theoretically run 32 gigs.

Thank you Michael.

Did you check the Avid DS Support Center web site for this information? It is accessible from http://www.avid.com/ds/support.
When Avid DS v10.0 ships next week, the old website will be archived and a new website will replace it all with new and updated content.
Cool. I'll give it a rest until the website is updated.
Thanks again.
