Hi,
I have Media composer3-Mojo SDi ,HP workstation and Betacam SP UW1400AP
Betacam have RS232,25 pins controls.
I have attached cable RS232-9pins to RS232-25 pins from computer to Betacam.
In media composer,Deck configuration-add chanel,directs -Com1 and add deck Betacam Sony Uv1800P.
But when I start Capture tool, software dosen't recognise Betacam at all.
Anyone have experience with this problem and solution?
People In Sony servise,say:
"We can make you Cable but but you must tell us....Avid is using RS232 or RS422?"
And I am confused.
Thanks in advance
Stefan
For deck control in the capture tool and digital cut tool, Avid uses 9 Pin RS-422 connection. This means your computer must have a 9 Pin RS 422 connector.

You can go to Addenda and purchase a box that will interface between the computer and the deck. Most PC serial ports use RS-232 and the deck is ultimatly looking for RS-422.
vpcmike: the deck is ultimatly looking for RS-422.
the deck is ultimatly looking for RS-422.
this is not true, as the uvw 1200/1400 models have a 25 pin non-frame accurate rs232-interface.
Thanks for pointing that out. I was under the assumption that all of the Sony decks were looking for 422.
.- You need to convert from RS-232C to RS-422 and then "translate" from 422 back to 232 with a special addenda adapter.
I'm gonna give you the product's links but now the addenda site is having problems.

This is what you need:
http://www.addenda-elect.com/product.htm
"A combination of the RS-2/4 and RS-4/U allowing translation between computers (RS-232) and Sony UVW-1200/1400 decks. Intended for use with PC-based edit controllers such as Speed Razor, MCXpress, edit*, etc."
Any way, you won't get any edits using this since the 1200/1400 have no built in editing capabilities whatsoever.
Just machine control, no insert, no assemble, no nothing.
I think is not worthy, but that is just my opinion
Guys this is the case for any (or at least most) VTR control via Avid isnt it? You have to have the serial converter box in the middle of the 9 pin wire between PC com port and deck remote control port. Its the second thing I check for flashing lights when the VT and the Digi Cut tool fall out!
I now need to source one myself for my SDi Mojo as it was a bit of an oversight
