Hi
Just upgraded to Media Composer 2.8.4 running on PC from Xpress Pro 5.8. I had a project I'd just started in Xpress Pro, that I want to continue editing in MC. The project was PAL 25i and had captured all the media as MXF 420 files. Unfortunately, I overwrote the project file by accident & have no back up...I still have the Avid Projects/Media Files/Users folders from Xpress Pro on my drive. Although I deleted the project file, there was a backup of bins in the Attic folder. I tried importing a bin from the Attic into a new project in Media Composer, the first one worked, but when I went to import the next bin - it said that 'the application binary file was corrupted - please uninstall system'. So after a fresh install, I just want to get my media into a new project in MC....My media is in the old Express Pro E:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folder - how do I import these into a new MC project? I'm a final cut editor learning Avid - please help! Thanks in advance, Alex.
In your new project in Media Composer, use the "Open bins" command to navigate to the specific bins in the old Xpress Pro project. If they're attic bins, change the extension to .avb Then, while you're in your new project, use the consolidate function to create a duplicate set of pointer and associated media files that will now be linked to your new Media Composer project. Those files will have a .new extension. You can then create new local bins in the Media Composer project and move those files into them.

Open the Media Tool. Select your media drive. Choose all projects. Choose Master Clips.
when the Media tool opens hightlight all the master clips and drap them to a new bin. Close media tool and now you have your old media for use.
Hi Thanks for the nfo guys. I actually managed to find a copy of my project - reopened it in Media Composer & got the same message when I opened bins - 'application binary file corrupted please reinstall system'. Apparently this is because MC doesn't like bins created in xpress pro. Found the solution here - http://community.avid.com/forums/p/22545/126062.aspx
And it works great! Created new bins, moved everything into them & deleted old ones & now everything working fine...
