We have MC 3.0 running on new computers with Leopard and no downgrade option (Nvidia cards). It seems that all the issues occur only because the Avid software is always looking for its hardware. Is there any way to turn off this device polling?
This is the first I've ever heard of this symptom. When Avid launches, if it doesn't see the hardware at that time, it should continue to run in Software Only mode. What errors or messages are you getting?

I agree with Randall MC3 in Leopard goes staight into software only mode here
I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm saying that the known firewire issues are exasperated by the fact that Avid polls for it's own hardware. Example: when starting up if I have any DV decks connected the Avid will generate bus errors. Then I'll have to trash all settings and restart. If decks are turned off at launch, then the Avid has no problems.I just want to be able to tell the Avid not to look for its hardware at all.
