    simple sorenson squeeze question

G5 power pc. 2.3 ghz. OS 10.4.9. XpressPro 5.7.2. Just realised that the Sorenson that came with my bundle is 3.1 (can't go to MPEG 2, and I need to get to DVD.) What is the Sorenson upgrade that is most compatible with my system specs? I apologize if there is a quick link to this answer that I missed.

I know Squeeze 4.x will work. Version 5 might require newer version of QT but that may cause problems with your Avid.

Thanks Dom and Dingo1. Sorry to get back to this three days later (got pulled in another direction this weekend,) i saw some free 14 day downloads on Sorenson's site. 4.5.7 says it runs with any version of Quicktime 7, but the version before it 4.3.3 says it needs 7.1.6. I am running QT 7.1.3 and i do not want to upgrade (am at tail end of a feature.) any word on whether 4.5.7 (and 4.5 while we're at it) runs well with QT 7.1.3?

    Thanks again fellas.

Sorry I could not be of help because I honestly don't remember. There are so many versions of OS X, QT, Squeeze, Avid, etc to keep track.

If it a free trial I would just try it. You can always uninstall it (unlike QT Player... which you cant uninstall).

Thanks again Dom. if the free trial is not compliant with my version of QT, could this cause problems with running my Avid? (ie: start up, playback, cutting, etc.), or would i just not be able to encode?

If there's not a chance that it would effect performance with my Avid, I might give it a try.

Sorry, for the Bueller crack. I was raised by wise asses.

    Re: simple sorenson squeeze question

Agree with Dom... give it a shot. Go with the latest free trial of Sorenson which apparently is compatible with the latest QT versions. Then try importing into your Avid...it will either come in or not, I believe. If not...then revert back. Also agree with Dom about checking out various compatibilities of various software updates, etc., there can be a "multiplier effect" of possible scenarios....so the proof is in the pudding so to speak... I may be wrong (and I'm sure somebody will jump in and correct me if I am), but I believe Avid should import most any quicktime and compatibility has more to do with exporting to Quicktime, fwiw.
